Although this fire is less than 10 miles away from my house, it not only would have to jump I-75 to get here, but we are leeward of the flames, so I don’t think our neighborhood is in imminent danger.
The fire has consumed over 7000acres so far. There was another one burning simultaneously about 20 miles W of the bigger fire, scorched 1,100acres before extinguished late yesterday afternoon. The two fires, origins yet unknown, were started about the same time, early afternoon Tuesday/yesterday.
It sure is depressing to see this happen. We have a *lot of jack pine (Pinus banksiana) in the area and the locale has been tinderbox-like - high winds, above average temps accompanied by low humidity are expected to persist throughout the week. ![]()
