I’ve been reading the Dickens classic, “DAVID COPPERFIELD”. I know that DC, like many of Dicken’s novels, is semi-autobiographical. Keeping this in mind, was Mr. Micawber really Dicken’s own father? He seems to appear in and out at very odd times…and he seems to get by without ever actually holding a job! In a way, I can identify with Micawber…he is a man who refuses to admit defeat, and remains an optimist. Of course, the novel ends with Micawber in Australia-becoming a magistrate. Was he a lawyer in the beginning?
How does his experience train young David?
