Will AG Gonzalez have to resign?

I think it’s illegal but that’s for the courts to decide. Besides, taking an official action the courts determine is illegal does not necessarily constitute a crime on the part of the responsible official.

An impeachable offense*, IMO, but not a prosecutable crime. Not illegal at all, in fact. Show me the statute.

Internal contradictions, certainly; he might invoke the defense of stupidity.

*Because an impeachable offense, being nowhere clearly defined in the Constitution, is whatever Congress decides it is; it is a political, not a legal, decision.

Okay, okay. He’s a dumb motherfucker and that oughtta do it.

But according to Kos, it now appears that when Gonzalez appointed Tim Griffin as a USA, he backdated the appointment (from 12/18/06 to 12/15/06).

Would that be a crime?

Congress is calling Ashcroft to testify about the hospital-room confrontation.

Update: Leahy has submitted a list of questions Gonzalez will be expected to answer at the House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing on July 24.

Since this sort of thing is not copyrighted, I take the liberty of posting Leahy’s letter in full:

Make some popcorn!

Squirm, AGAG, squirm!

I believe the answer is ‘executive privilege’. Either that, or ‘it was agreed’, without specification as to who agreed.

All well and fine, but do you really think this is going to succeed in any fashion where all prior attempts have failed? You can’t get blood from a tur… well, let’s say from a stone… and the stonemason that hewed this blockhead happens to be holding the keys to the White House front door, as well as the world’s largest “Get Out of Jail Free” card for each of his loyal team players.

At best, this gives Fredo an incentive to learn twelve new and amusing ways to mime the phrase “fuck you” to the committee (and—barely worth mentioning— to us, the “little people” of the USA).

…and don’t forget the always useful " I don’t remember." :frowning:

Gonzales Resigns as Attorney General

Just reported on NPR as well, “according to a senior adminsitration official.”

About damn time.

Now lets get a grand jury impaneled to see if there exists enough legally admissible evidence to charge him with perjury. (HINT: yes.)

I was wrong. I thought he would never leave. It seemed he had weathered the storm. The Demos certainly weren’t going to impeach him and he had the favor of Bush by acting as his public firewall, plus he just got some extra power. Why in the world would he leave all of the sudden?

Panic is setting in.

The Fear has these …persons…by their wedding tackle.

Wedding tackle? Are brides wearing fishnet veils now?

Maybe there is something sinister lying behind all this. Both Rove and Gonzales bailing out within a few weeks of each other? Where’s a conspiracy theorist when you need one. . . .

Wedding tacke.

What a lovely colloquialism! Thank you, Bosda Di’Chi of Tricor!

I had to ask. . . .
