Will all the old-board links be re-directed to the new versions?

Here is a link to an old thread of mine. Not an important one, but one I have not used on Discourse.

I am in no huge rush, but will that link eventually re-direct to the Discourse version of it? Or are all those old links permanently dead?

I am thinking of clearing all history of the old SDMB out of my browser so it won’t go to those.

Same question for the forum links. When I link to Cafe Society on the old page, it is dead.

Old Cafe Society link.

I updated my bookmarks, but my history is so filled with old links, I’m wondering if I should wait or just clear them out.

I’m still learning the new board, so a few days ago I tried using Google to search for old threads – Google was always my go-to as the old board’s search was less than optimal. Anyway, I had the same issue you are: the links that Google found didn’t work. I’ll try to find my thread, but the consensus was, IIRC, that the old links will eventually work on the new board. Now, lets see how easy it is to find my own threads and link to them…

Ok, so here is the thread I started.

Here’s a 4 month old thread of mine that appears to still work. Thankfully, as that thread means a lot to me.

Here’s a thread of mine from 2011 that’s still live.

My first ever Dope thread, which I did during the pay-to-post era. Still live, unfortunately. That thread is actually pretty embarrassing now.

Here’s a thread about driving to Alaska from 2012 that is live. Here is one form 2006 that is not.

So I guess this boils down to: I don’t know why some are working and some are not.

I believe the Discourse team are working on converting the links, it’s just going to take some time. Someone also mentioned that the search issue is just a case of waiting for Google to re-index the site, so it should fix itself eventually.

Lancia, thank you for reminding me of my old thread, and of the road trip that is still in the planning. Plans got delayed by now having been to Alaska 2x, a cruise in 2013 and a flight up to the 2019 Iditarod. Those, and also Jeep troubles when the 2014 JGC CRD I bought had some troubles and I had to pursue (and win) a lemon law case against Jeep.

Back to this thread, though — it’s good the OP found some links that failed and some that succeeded. If the Discourse team is going to fix broken links it may behoove us to list them so we could track their progress.

@Bullitt, I’m tentatively planning to drive up the Alcan with my son in the summer of 2022. We can compare notes if you’re still planning it with some intent.

[/quote]@Lancia, definitely interested. 2022 is a maybe for me, and it could be 2023, but my trip is coming soon.
