An urban myth probably, that I thought was only running in my own circle of friends, but I now heard this from someone for another country as well.
Apparently you should never combine Baileys Irish Cream (you do have this in the US, I hope) with a fizzy drink, as it will react badly in your stomach. I even heard warnings about bursting guts. Aargh!
I presume that this is all nonsense. (surely there would be warning on the bottle), but I would love to have this confirmed. Can anyone confirm that this is impossible, or is there even the flimsiest bit of truth in it?
I heard about this once (yes, we have Bailey’s Irish Cream here  )…
There’s this joke certain bars play on patrons celebrating their 21st birthday, and enjoying their first (legal) drinks. You give them a shot of Bailey’s and some other agent that “activates” it (may or may not be a “fizzy” drink). The unsuspecting plebe ends up with… a mouth full of an icky, cheese-like substance that they either have to swallow or spit out, thus looking like an idiot in front of all their friends.
Short answer: it may kill you socially, but not physically.
This also works with lemon juice. I’ve done the “it’s a REAL MAN’s shot” trick with several friends, and believe me, it’s priceless!! Get a shot of Bailey’s and lemon juice, and have the person drink, but swish around in the mouth for a few seconds to “accentuate the taste!”. The greatest part is you can see in their face the exact second the Bailey’s curdles in their mouth. Their face gets all screwed up, and they can’t decide whether to spit it out, or swallow.
somewhat off-topic, but some parents are suing baskin-robbins right now because their kid ate the “Shrek” flavor with the “pop-rocks” candy in it. a few hours later, the kid was rushed to the hospital because her stomach was about to explode from all the pop-rocks she swallowed in the ice cream. It may turn out to be a bogus lawsuit (just BURP!), but i thought it was funny anyway, and this post reminded me of it. Carry on…
