Will Bush make it?

[QUOTE=ITR champion]
Almost two years ago, I mocked George W. Bush for receiving an approval rating of 37%, which everybody agreed was absurdly low. Now he’s been below 30% for several weeks, with one poll putting him at 26%.

The all-time low was 23%, set by President Truman.

So here’s a simple poll: will George W. Bush become the least popular President in history before he leaves office?

I vote yes.

IMHO (where this thread belongs):

Economy stays good: Mr. Bush loses the opportunity to have the lowest approval of all time. Silly ideology and foolish wars alone won’t alienate his core base.

Economy tanks: We have a new winner!!

nevermind…

Well, on those grounds, I’ll see your Franklin Pierce and raise you John Tyler. Tyler endorsed secession and was actually elected to the provisional Confederate Congress before dying Jan. 18, 1862. Scumbag.

As to the OP: alas, I think Truman will continue to hold the record. But I’d love for him to lose it, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving than Bush (since Nixon missed the mark).

Yeah, but Pierce is related to George W. Bush. His mom’s maiden name was Pierce. It’s all coming together.

More evidence that Bush is near bedrock: this Washington Post poll, which has typically tracked higher than most, has Bush at a nadir of 33%, while Dick Cheney’s approval rating is 34%. So right now there are people out there who approve of Dick Cheney but disapprove of Bush.

He dipped into the 26-28% range because of the immigration bill. His views on amnesty aren’t too bad, compared to the rest of his mindset and what one would expect. Or, as someone else said…

Look at his disapproval ratings, too. 65% now. Nixon topped out at 66% four days before he resigned. Truman’s all-time record was 67%.

Come on, George, you can do it!

This ought to put him over the top:
Bush has threatened vetoes or signaled veto threats against nine of the 12 annual spending bills for the budget year beginning Oct. 1
