Will colorful men's suits ever come back into style?

This is incredibly accurate. And even if it is the right size, it’ll still feel constricting until you’re used to it.

I hope so. Remember that Beatles album where they all had on white suits? That stood out because it was so different from the staid “business gray” of most suits. You would have to tie me down to get a tie or suit on me now, I only had one job where I had to wear them and hated it (the suit & tie, the job was fine).

For that one gig, I’d found a suit in a thrift store that someone had gotten made in Hong Kong, and it led to an amazing discovery. Silk is warm! Who knew? The suit weighed close to nothing, but the super tight weave of silk along w/ its fine fibers made it nicely snuggish on winter streets.

But anything to spice things up ala 60’s,70’s and 80’s, I’m all in favor of. This American look that seems to have affected every Western country in the known world has worn real thin. Baseball cap, T-shirt and backpack. At least put on something like a Grateful Dead T-shirt to spice it up. Most people dress like bums now.

Also, most guys get fatter in their lives … so there is that …

Yep, especially for guys who wear “American cut” button-down shirts which tend to have more wearing ease (looser fit) in the body and arms, compared to “European cut” and similar. They can put on a few pounds and not notice because the shirt still fits them more or less okay, but the moment of truth comes when they try to button the collar. “Actually, sweetie, it’s not your necktie that’s the problem here.” :kissing_heart:

Band collar. Maybe a nice loose cravat.

I wish more places sold suit separates–the standard drop is 40 chest 34 waist so if your waist is bigger or smaller you need alteration as for hems I sometimes want to have cuffs rather than straight

Suitsupply, at least with one of their OTR lines, has a non-advertised “separate” that serves men with a nonstandard drop, with wholly unfinished trousers so the individual can choose their break and cuff and seat cut (the legs are still cut a bit pegged for my taste, but that’s today’s style…)

Separates however tend to be (unfairly IMO) looked down upon and most makers will just not do separates for their “better” lines since there the premise is for each suit to have all pieces cut from the same bolt. .

Night before last on Colbert, Nick Kroll was wearing a seriously bright red suit. Looked good!
