Corporations or businesses that benefit from cheap labor aren’t that bothered by health, welfare, justice or education costs.

The second fundamental problem with the election in Sweden’s tradition of party representative at the polling stations divide their party’s ballots out to voters who will receive them. Here one must be aware that the Swedish electoral districts are on average considerably less than the Danish. There are so many cases - especially outside the big cities, but not only - where voters and party representatives know each other personally, and therefore it can be difficult to avoid the social pressure that occurs when an acquaintance, you offered a ballot of.
**Of course one can take several ballots and thus camouflage which party ultimately vote for, but just that to take several ballots signal the to party representative that you probably do not vote for her party - and it will then also could be socially harmful.

It is probably mainly this part of the election, which many foreigners find it difficult to accept because they see it as both a violation of the principle of secret ballot and as a subtle way to exercise choice press until shortly before the vote itself, which makes it difficult to accept the election as very fair in relation to the electorate.

But whatever principle behind the party representatives’ presence, and no matter what the voters perhaps should be doing, then it is a fact that some voters do not take all the ballots. Therefore, one can easily get an impression of who they certainly did not vote. Therefore, voters taking ballots from new - and potentially controversial - parties automatically be under suspicion from their fellow citizens to have sympathies for one of these and it will in itself could act stigmatizing.

But even if the election was as democratic as in the US, I would still feel uncomfortable to vote for a party that is constantly stigmatized in newspapers, radio and tv. Instead I voted for the Moderate Party, mainly because of the property tax which the Socialists/Greens would probably have reintroduced.

Err, you obviously haven’t been reading other trheads in the Great Debates section lately. There has been considerable discussion of what cultural marxism refers to in this thread.

Particularly, I found this essay quite useful at outlining the intellectual movements that it describes.

I think Breivik has been quite useful in illustrating how “Cultural Marxism” is a term lately acquired and popularized by the Counter-Jihad / Anti-Multiculturalism movements that Breivik belonged to, e.g. the latest iteration of the xenophobe right wing. Arguably contributing to him shooting and killing 80+ norwegian teenagers you might say…

2. I suspect that most Swedes would consider that FoxNews piece extremely misleading (yeah big surprise, I know). From my (limited) knowledge there are some problems in Rosengard in Malmo - which is from what I understand indeed (in a swedish context) an extremely poor neighbourhood with lots of immigrants. But Malmo in general is a nice enough city. The videos linked here are basically a “best-of” of the worst things that ever went down in arguably the poorest & worst neighborhood in the whole of Sweden.

I am disappointed that in my visit to Malmo I completely missed the festivities. Seemed like a pleasant small city. Too effing cold for my taste though, sorry.

For the record, my husband is Danish. Our child is fluent in Danish (and two other languages). Our jobs “travel” with us, so we would not be taking jobs from Danes, but adding two new ones to their economy*. We have savings and live reasonably well. I am educated, fluent in several languages, etc. Yet neither of us have any desire to live in Denmark while, as my husband puts it, “the fascists are doing the talking”. Basically he is self-exiled.
*I pay taxes in the US, a country that I haven’t set foot in since I was pregnant with my 6 yo.

I wouldn’t bother. Apparently, he cribbed it from the Unabomber’s manifesto, with some substitution of buzzwords.

In the preface he says he devoted nine years of his life to writing the book, working full time during the last three.[3] The manifesto plagiarize substantial parts of the Unabomber manifesto with slightly altered passages. I think he’s reading too much into the Tea Party – I don’t recall immigration issues even being mentioned on any of their signs. Certainly it is not mentioned in the “Contract from America,” that’s all about starving the federal beast. The same beast that patrols the borders.

No, it isn’t, because the definition of “revolutionary” is more definite than that of “conservative.” Looked at one way, Ayatollah Khomeini was a conservative; looked at another way, a radical; but, any way you look at it, a revolutionary.

Political “conservationism” has about as much to do with conserving anything as “People” in the title of Communist countries/parties has to do with actual people. Conservatives are people who want to reshape and exploit society, not conserve anything.

Political “conservationism” has about as much to do with conserving anything as “People” in the title of Communist countries/parties has to do with actual people. Conservatives are people who want to reshape and exploit society, not conserve anything.

So are all conservatives cut from the same cloth and identical? :rolleyes: That’s like say all socialists from Willy Brandt to Pol Pot are the same.
