Will Gore concede with class?

THAT was one class act.

My dad said after the speech ended. “Wow, he really screwed Bush into the ground on that one!” (my dad is a big fan of Gore.)

class, total class.

Gore may have risen up and acted like a man, but you filled in and gave me the performance I had been expecting.

Now it’s time to watch the Shrub struggle to read a speech. I wonder how many words he’ll mis-pronounce…?

Take a joke, already. I thought my following comments showed that I’m no Gore junkie.

THIS JUST IN: Gore didn’t mention the Popular vote, but NBC did. I guess since Gore didn’t fuck up, they felt they had to.

I said it in another thread, and I’ll sya it here:

Classy. Very classy. Kudos.

I’d say it was about what I was expecting, aside from the fact that he sounded more honest than I’ve ever noticed before. Actually seemed relieved to be over with everything, which I’d imagine was part of the reason that he waited so long (after deciding to concede). I wasn’t overwhelmed by its classiness or anything. From what I can tell, he gave the sort of speech that served him and his party best. Which is exactly why it didn’t surprise me.

Damn, I should have been online earlier to make bets. I could have cleaned up on this one, I think.

Wow, Tampa. That’s possibly the most disgusting sentiment I’ve seen posted on the internet, ever. What’s more disturbing and dispiriting is that you probably meant it in jest.

180[sup]o** from Tampa Mr. Gore was a good man tonight.

Final score:
No “Will of the people” reference.

No popular vote references.

No full and accurate count references.

2 flags.

Tipper shot, no hugs, but a mention.

No pistols.

No penis.

He did concede.

He did use the phrase “President Elect-Bush”.

He did call for unity.

Excuse my towering ignorance, but what was Tampa referring to?

(A link would be fine.)

Just scroll up, it’s all there.

I’m on my best behavior tonight, so I’m terrified to comment on it.

That sneaky Gore. Just when you think you have him pegged, he turns around and behaves decently. You just can’t trust the man.

As atonement for being wrong about his speech, I offer him the following suggestion for an '04 campaign theme song. He might want to use the Buck Owens version to help nail down Tennessee.

I can’t believe they pre-empted The Simpsons to show his speech!
8-(

It did seem to be fairly reasonable, even though Gore was his usual stiff self. Nice and short, to the point.

I think he definitely conceded with class. I wouldn’t have changed anything he said. It was a very good speech. BTW, I voted for dubya.

It makes me so glad that you were so wrong.

Well done, Mr. Vice President, and well played.

It was good.
It was difficult, I beleive, for him, hence the too many stiff smiles.
It made me feel sad.
I feel somehow uneasy; like, are we going to be in good hands now?
At least, I don’t feel guilty. Being in Ohio, my vote wouldn’t have helped Gore, and my Nader vote Didn’t hurt him.
I’m sorry he didn’t win.

I thought it was one of the best speeches I’ve ever seen from Al Gore.

Classy, and conciliatory even when it must have hurt. Well done, Al. In the end, you chose to serve the country, and not partisan divides. I salute you.

My beliefs don’t lend themselves to any one party’s platform, although I generally characterize myself as a conservative. For example, I disdain abortion, believing it to be the terrible taking of a sacred human life… and I disdain the death penalty, believing it to be a terrible taking of a sacred human life. It’s hard to find candidates that support human life at both the beginning and the end like that.

While I voted for Bush, I did so with much distress. Now that he’s won the election by such a razor-thin margin, I sincerely hope he respect the “mandate” that he’s been given: govern from the center, include both parties in his Cabinet, and encourage House and Senate leaders to share power with the Democrats as well.

I believe he chose to serve the country all along, and for a great many years, not just in the end.

Congratulations to Vice President Gore. He did us all proud last night. I wept, and still weep for his loss - and for ours. I hope we don’t suffer too greatly for it.

I see you missed the spirit of the night as well.

Why did you assume that was a slam against you and not praise for Mr. Gore? Got issues?
