Hmm. I’m sorry to tell you this, but your father’s gone native. Does he complain about snowbirds? That’s another telltale sign.
I am pretty sure stories like those in the OP are the basis for the old line “the grass is always greener.”
I think he’s headed that way. At least he’s not yet a Q-Tip, he doesn’t eat dinner at 4:00, and he doesn’t wear his belt up around his chest.
My microwave is a dry heat also.
I have a friend who for work related reasons had to move to Irvine California. He loves to swim, bike, and run. He often places very well in tri’s in a competitive age group. You would think he would have been very happy about being able to do these things in nice weather year round. Nope, he was complaining immediately about how he would miss having seasons.
Because of my wife’s job we recently had to move, and her coworkers also often have to move. When we left Atlanta her bosses wife told us never to judge a new place tell you have lived there for 2 years. I agree, but since it’s been 2 and a half since we left I can safely say where we ended up sucks.
I will say in his defense that it is frequently FAR too hot to go to the beach and I also welcome the break in sunshine that comes with a really good thunderstorm or the rare overcast summer’s day.
I don’t know, the weather here in FL is pretty wonderful right now. I recently spent 3 days in Urbana, IL (visiting my step daughter at college) and though it didn’t snow or rain the sun never came out. It was just gray and cloudy and cold. Didn’t mind the cold so much but I missed the sunshine.
I’m inclined to agree that people aren’t very good at anticipating what (if anything) will make them happy.
tdnWhen they’re true transplants they’ll have a year round sun tan and skin that looks similar to leather.
personally, I never tan and I hate the beach but I think I’m in the minority
When I was in Brazil my problem wasn’t with the unending sunshine but with the fact that I couldn’t make any small talk. Once I said to a Brazilian “Hey, what do you think the weather will be like tomorrow?” The response was somewhat suspicious: “Hot and sunny. What do you think it’s going to be? :dubious:”
Without the possibility of hail and snow and thunder and a range of 20 degrees, all on the same day, what in the world do people talk about?
Probably their feelings. Can you imagine that? Talking about feelings with complete strangers?
I’m getting a picture of what a true Floridian senior is like. My parents will NEVER be that.
Then again, none of their friends are like that either. They do live next door to a true redneck, though.
