Not to mention tump was re-elected after doing it, by his biggest margin ever. I’m guessing that was a factor in Biden’s calculus as well.
True and I agree. He feels emboldened now that he won a plurality of the votes over Kamala (49.9% to 48.3%) and shockingly she couldn’t flip a single county countrywide…Trump might feel he has the moral and electoral authority to go all in with his agenda. And that may include targetting/prosecuting/jailing his “enemies”.
The next election is two years away. In that intervening time events will take place that will radically alter the world we know today. By the time the midterms roll around Biden and anything associated with him will be utterly forgotten. Unless he is being put up as Emmanuel Goldstein in which case the pardon will be the least of his crimes.
Oooh! On record! Kind of like when Trump went on record back in 2016 to say he’d release his tax returns as soon as they were finished being audited? I think the rules of the game have changed.
I like Fetterman, but I think he misses at least a couple of very important points:
(1) Trump has shown no contrition and no evidence that he will not re-offend. In fact, it is very clear that Trump has been emboldened to continue to commit criminal acts and I predict that he will.
(2) My impression was that Trump’s outrageous behavior in regards to the classified documents case is the sort of thing that usually does result in charges, so where is the evidence of selective prosecution? And, of course, January 6 has no real analog since the circumstances surrounding it are kind of unique to a President. But, do we really want to be sending the message that a coup against the country is okay if you don’t succeed (and, of course, it is effectively okay if you do succeed because, well, you’re in the position to make it okay)?
I recently watched a Bulward interview with Adam Kinzinger, which is also under threat of arrested. His response - bring it on,
I do believe this is how the system should work.
I know many others have less ‘rose tinted glasses’ but that is very slippery slope I rather avoid.
Using Trump as an example to emulate is likely not a path to inspire others.
I do hate the - but they did it first argument
And for the 3rd or 4th time - no I do not think both sides are equally guilty.
