Similar charges I would have no issue. Even some garden variety coke possession being pardoned I wouldn’t care about.
What might you be imagining otherwise?

I doubt he’ll bother, it won’t be necessary with the incoming fascist government. And in any case the main reaction would be surprise at Trump bothering to do anything that benefits someone other than himself.
I have no issue…rn I’m happy Biden did it and his family is safe.
You’re talking about the same voters who apparently forget a fiasco wrapped in a calamity inside a disaster in just four years?
I was referring to the nepotism. If the Dems on this board are OK with Biden pardoning his son then we shouldn’t see in 2028 “You should not be able to pardon family. Trump again abuses the pardon”
Deleted because it seems this could contribute to a potential hijack of the thread.
They cannot go from near full rule of law to absolutely no respect for law or constitution overnight. Destroying democracy takes time. So they will accept that the stuff Hunter was tried for is off the table, and that the Trump Justice Department (or a red state prosecutor) needs to cook up other charges. Kash Patel.(whether as FBI director or with a consolation prize position) can come up with something.
How far Trump will go really is an open question. For now I think it makes more sense to think there will be a middle ground here, where Trump does not operate as a classic fascist, but his loyalists will be given enough Justice Department power to seriously dent the rule of law.
To be a little more concrete, they probably will not be able to turn large numbers of U.S. citizens into political prisoners. But a few dozen on the enemies list – Trump wouldn’t be much of a authoritarian if he couldn’t pull that off early in a second term.
Moderating:
Please take this discussion to a different thread. You’re off topic for this one and hijacking.
Is it your belief that Trump wouldn’t have been able to pardon Junior if Biden hadn’t pardoned Hunter?
No. I was pointing out that there is the possibility that some on this thread have no problem with Biden pardoning his son but if Trump were to do it, they would roast him for a nepo-pardon.
If Don Jr. is in need of a pardon by the end of 2028, it’ll be for something far more serious than anything Hunter has been accused of.
Or are we assuming Democrats are going to gin up charges against Junior for political reasons and seek an atypically harsh sentence for him, as has been done to Biden’s kid?
And if the crime is serious let that be the issue. Not the fact that Donnie is his son; that’s all I’m saying.
That implies a non-existent symmetry between trying to protect someone from persecution by a corrupt wannabee dictator, and the corrupt actions of that wannabee dictator.
Not that I expect it to come up, even if Trump lives that long he won’t care and the Democrats are unlikely to ever again be permitted into power anyway.
Trump pardoned his son-in-law’s father and has now put that same pardoned fellow forward as ambassador to France.
No. Don’t read into what I wrote more than I said. All I said was that if Dems are OK with Biden pardoning his son that they then can’t come back in four years and say Trump cannot pardon his son because of nepotism. Like I said to Smapti, if the Dems want to argue the crime that’s a different issue.
That’s like saying “If Republicans want to say Obama can’t appoint a Supreme Court justice in an election year, then they can’t try to confirm one of Trump’s appointees in an election year either”.
We all know how that worked out.
Without me bothering to look, I must simply assume that many were saying “If it were Trump’s kid, he’d definitely be pardoning them” all along.
You didn’t assume that? It was a de facto justification for why JB could (if not should) preemptively pardon his son.
The fact that JB didn’t … and that he let his son twist in the wind for as long as he did … is yet another example of JB’s character. We all assumed he had the 2024 election to think of, but that ceased to be the case about 107 days before the 2024 election.
Waiting until the guys from Bekins Van Lines are staging … was the right thing to do.
And count me as right there with those who say that the Republicans would seek to make political hay out of any fucking thing that Joe Biden does or did, doesn’t or didn’t do, before or until his final day in office.
Or in his retirement.
As was posted already, he pardoned his father-in-law already. Clinton pardoned relatives. Others have as well. The ship on nepotism-based pardons has well and truly sailed.
Contrary to @PhillyGuy’s claims, voters don’t seem to give a shit.
O.K. with it?
We fucking expect it!
Yeah but on this board, if Trump does the same thing, it’s different and evil.
