Unce, tice, fee times a mady…
what’s up Wookinpanub? I have been an “on again, off again” lurker for about 5 years. (Yes, 5 years) I joined last January. I don’t post a lot, but it is fun. So, from one newbie to another, have fun!
Can you fight my ignorance? I know it’s probably obvious, but it’s late in the day.
it’s an Eddie Murphy skit from SNL where he’s Buckwheat singing the greatest hits.
She got Bedding dabies size!
Who brought the 55 Gallon Drum of Canola Oil for the Roto-Rooter?
We gotta get this Initiation started!
I’ve got the canola oil, 10 trees covered with spiderweb and Randall. I think he likes me.
Pokes head out of cave
Argh!!! The blinding white light!!!
Pops back into cave
I know that in certain corners of Usenet, it’s considered impolite to lurk. Basically (it is felt), lurkers are getting something for nothing: they benefit from the discussions they read, but don’t give anything back in the form of their own contributions.
That said, I’ve never noticed any anti-lurker sentiment on this board, even when it was free.
Here, you pretty much have to lurk for a while in order to figure out what’s going on…
Welcome, Agenais!
Please join our little party.
[sub]Okay, we’ve got the trees, Randall, and the canola oil. I’ll go prep the tank. Room four, remember.[/sub]
OK, I’ll grant the trees covered in spiderweb. But HOW in the world did you cover them with Randall? I mean won’t he be upset spread all over 10 trees like that? Or did you put them Rally, really close together? About the only way that I could see you coveriung 10 trees with randall and him not being upset about it would be if he were… !!!
(Written on 2 hours of sleep before heading to chicago to pick up my girlfriend and seeing her for the first time. Don’t worry I’m not driving.)
ooops, Rally = Really
Marks Agernais off of my Doper watching list
Look folks, I’ve seen another rare one.

Apologies are hereby tendered for my inprecise phrasing. I intended to say that, in addition to the oil and trees, Randall is currently in my company.
He tickles.
Ahhh. The wonderfully soft and comfy cloak of lurkdum. I started lurking in 2000, and didn’t pony up the scratch until last year.
I get so much out of reading the posts. I’ve found some of my favorite favorites, learned new and useless things, and wasted WAY too much time.
I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
But now, I have been compelled to meekly type a few posts. Nothing like dipping your toe in first!
Looks like we’re gonna need more canola oil and some towels.
Geez, thats a high post rate per day…
And squid.
Lots o’ squid.
Lurking on here is one of the highs of my day. I have SDMB with my morning coffee and at odd times during the day. I confess, I’m a lurkaholic! I may be in denial, but I refuse to give up my addiction.
I hate it when there’s a post about lurking that brings me out to attend a “meeting”.
To the tune of the llama song:
Here’s a lurker, there’s a lurker
and another little lurker
fuzzy lecatt, funny lieu
lurker, lurker, duck
lurker, lurker, cheesecake lurker
trippler, bricker, pochaco
lurker, lurker, **Maastricht ** , lurker
Duck Duck Goose!
If I may offer an opinion on Lurking as a concept, without pointing to any specific ex-lurkers, it would be that Lurkers are much like the Silent Majority in that whatever sentiments or views or preferences they may hold, by remaining silent and non-participative they give an unknown skew to the board(s) as a whole.
Whenever polls or collections of opinion are attempted here, it is fairly easy to assess the general sway of those who have participated, but there’s no real clue as to how the Membership may feel about the issue(s) at hand. That leaves it to the vocal few (and it’s anybody’s guess as to what percent of total they represent) to determine the order of business or the “prevailing attitude” for whatever good that does.
It’s like Real Life in that the voting minority dictate to the non-participating majority what’s to become of things. It’s just a fact of life that must be dealt with, and any notion of a true Democracy goes out the window.
Other than that, Lurkers don’t bother me at all. How could they? You never see/hear them. Like termites!
