I agree. It looks incredibly self-serving to me. I’ll be interested to see what Floridians think of him and this flip-flop.
OK, that’s one more Senate seat for the (D) column . . .
I hope so ![]()
The pundits are all saying it’s a boost for the Republican chances of holding the Senate. I’m not convinced that the pundits know their ass from a hole in the ground. Were they not paying attention the last six months?
So does that mean he has to enter the primary agains the friend he had lined up to run? Who’s the friend?
Northern Piper, LtGov Lopez Cantera has withdrawn upon the announcement. There are others in the field still.
Think Little Marco will seek for the Short Fingered One to endorse him?
The state’s lieutenant governor: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/marco-rubio-reelection-carlos-lopez-cantera-224388
Ah, I missed that, thanks.
And Wikipedia already has Carlos Lopez-Cantera classified as a “Withdrawn” candidate and Rubio as “Declared.”
The primary is August 30.
I guess the question will be, were people in Florida?
He already basically did about a month ago in a tweet.

Just a few months ago, “Run, Marco!” is what Trump would’ve put on his front bumper.
Marco skips a committee meeting today so he can announce he’s running for reelection. The ad just writes itself.
I was grinding my teeth to read that Rubio and his BFF the Lt. Gov. were shaken by the Orlando shootings, and that that was a factor in Rubio changing his mind. So he decides to run for reelection to the Senate after all… no doubt to manfully resist any new gun control initiatives.
Murphy is a fine candidate, but first he has to win his own primary. The loony left wants Grayson, who will go down in flames spectacularly in the election.
Latest poll actually showed Rubio 7 ahead of Murphy, but Rubio has much more name recognition.
And yeah, I agree about Rubio. He represents everything that is wrong with politics. It’s all about the career, not about public service. Doesn’t mean that I won’t vote for him, but Murphy definitely has the inside track on my vote. If it’s Grayson, I’ll cast a vote for Rubio quite happily.
Rubio is everything that’s wrong with politics, and you could happily vote for him?
Only because there are worse problems out there, and most politicians represent everything that’s wrong with politics. Rubio just stands out more because of his potential. Grayson, for example, is a lot worse.
Kinda curious what you think Rubio would do for the people that Grayson wouldn’t. Besides be a Republican, that is.
Ask not what Rubio can do for the people, ask what the people can do for Rubio.
For starters he doesn’t have Grayson’s ethical problems, he has a far superior temperament(Grayson is basically Donald Trump), and he’s still got potential. He just has to become his own man, rather than a creature of Washington, constantly trying to climb that ladder. You get to the top of the ladder by distinguishing yourself, not by just being the handsomest guy in the room doing nothing remarkable.
In other words, we need more John McCain, less Mitt Romney.
But Patrick Murphy is a remarkable enough candidate that I’d sooner give him the keys for six years. Plus if Rubio wants to prove himself, Tallahassee is a better place than DC, so a defeat here might be good for his career.
