If we’re reporting problems, twice I tried to submit posts only to be greeted by the “this page cannot be displayed” page. I panicked, clicked back, resubmitted, and everything was fine. No timeouts per se.
I couldn’t get the boards to load for about an hour (2AM - 3AM CDT), while every other board on the intarweb I frequent loaded just fine. No big deal for us Yanks, since most of us are probably asleep, but for those Dopers (and I think there just might be a couple who not only live somewhere else in the world, but are also not American  ) living elsewhere, it might have been an issue.
Like those of us on THIS side of the world. I’m 11 hours ahead of America’s East Coast this time of year. Could not access it for a while this afternoon.
Well, during that time frame, General Questions has quite a few threads with comments posted. So I’d say it wasn’t necessarily the Board in that case.
I do know that, in the past, there have been times that I’ve had trouble getting the Board to pay proper attention to me. But if I restart the computer, that difficulty goes away. Now, whether that is the result of the restart, or just the passage of time, I cannot say. But it is one of my tricks when the Board goes balky on me. I think maybe, if I’ve been running a while, my puter simply gets tired of talking to this place.
Well, to be honest, it wasn’t completely flat during that time. I could, occassionally, get through, but it wasn’t anything consistent, where I could expect the board to be up for 10 minutes at time. It would be up long enough for me to load a page, then if I wanted to make a post, it’d go down, then some time later, come back up. Note I wasn’t the only one with this problem, so I hardly think that it’s a case of “cockpit error.”
Care to explain what you think I’ve done here that’s so egregious it warrants a blatant rule violation to bring it to my attention? You don’t like the opinions I’ve expressed in this thread; that’s fine, you most certainly have that right. I also have a right to express mine, and I believe I have done so civilly unlike some of the responses to me.
Just to throw in my opinion here, I’m not so much concerned with being comped for the time everything is down (although I DO use search every day, and it’s increasingly getting annoying that I can’t use it, especially since I’ve had an ongoing thread in the Games forum for nearly a year which I can’t make new posts to because I can’t FIND it!), as I am about things not getting fix by April 30, when my membership is up. I’ve kept up my Charter Member status ever since the board went P2P, and I would hate to lose it because the admins couldn’t get their act together after over a month, and no way am I renewing if there isn’t going to be a search feature - this board has a TREASURETROVE of back information, and the big reason I pay to use this board is for access to it…I really only post when I have a question or something to say, so I could honestly survive without the ability to post here anymore, if it came down to it. Knowing I’d never be able to access my old threads without bookmarking all of them up front would make posting here demotivational anyway.
Positive things QED has done: Not gotten angry.
Negative things QED has done: Not gotten angry.
A lot of people, from what I have seen the majority, are very upset about the searches being removed. It’s nice that you weren’t one of the people to run and start the seven or eight or so threads about the subject which I have to follow, but why can’t you share empathy with those of us who do care?
You’re coming off as dismissive, and a jerk like danceswithcats explained. Your status on the board is that of a member like the rest of us (- subscription fee). I don’t mind it if you give your opinion, but you are coming off rather abrasively.
Please understand that I’m trying to appeal to you, and not insult you.
Also, perhaps she is simply trying to summon TubaDiva again.
That generally involves waving a dead chicken around (and dances is a a dude, BTW).
:smack:
He and I share the common experience of commonly being mistaken for chicks.
Take it to the Pit if you feel the need. This post is unsuitable for ATMB.
I was incorrectly called a female last week in the stop pirating PC games thread too. Maybe another new feature that can be implemented once this board gets its act together is the ability to list age and gender along with location info below your username?
The thing is, QED, is that this is not really a debate forum. It’s a place for asking questions about/of the administration of this board. So while if this were a thread about which way the board is going to be formatted or run then expressing your opinion would be valid, here it seems that your theme has been “Quit whining” and I really don’t see why you have the “right” to do that here. And as I noted earlier, you are getting a free ride so your Quit Whining campaign is particularly grating.
Generally, if your username ends in a, people assume you are female. I don’t know why that is, but it seems to happen that way. In the absence of a gender field some have made do by sticking a note in the location field, FWIW.
I, for one, have been quite repentant when called on my shit. If you’d like to call my attention to a recent instance where I’ve been a dick, been called on it, and not either (a) apologized/retracted or (b) given a reasonable defense of my actions, I’m all ears (in the Pit, that is).
Glad to hear that my “quit whining” campaign won’t be particularly grating.
You might have a point if it weren’t the case that they have considerably more of my money than they have of yours.
No, I still have the same point, though that makes it less grating. How does your great charity change the fact that your opinion in this thread amounts to thread shitting? It really isn’t your place to come in to a ATMB thread and tell people that their complaints are petty.
For one, you can’t seem to post in the same thread as Q.E.D. without making a Google crack. For two, you just don’t seem concerned about preventing a condescending tone from pervading your posts about, well, anything.
I haven’t posted much lately, but I do, did, searches occasionally when I have logged on.
I too am interested if the paying membership will be comped, at any rate, for a service paid for but not provided.
This thread has prompted my to post this in relation to QED’s responses.
