Will Obama come out of the closet?

I’m glad you’re complying, because otherwise I might’ve thought you were pushing the envelope.

I’m glad you’re glad. At least I know one person would mourn if I was banned from the dope.

And everyone knows that the Only True Christians are the ones with loud mouths who back Obama, right? /sarcasm

Yeah, he’s a devout member. Of the United Church of Christ. A denomination that in general supports same-sex marriage. He’s a liberal Christian == one of the very few non clergy who are to come to public awareness in recent years.

There was a day when a politician did what he believed to be right, not necessarily what would win him votes. I don’t know if Obama is such a man, but he seems a lot more likely to be than anyone else in the public eye these days.

Finally, it’s been my impression that Barack and Michelle Obama personally believe that marriage is properly between one man and one woman – but that he’s the sort of person who doesn’t think that he has license to impose his personal beliefs by legislative fiat.

And that he believes that it’s right to give same-sex couples desiring to join in some sort of quasi-marital relationship the legal recognition equal to other couples that they deserve – regardless of what name you put on it.

I think there are solid reasons to go for marriage, no compromises, but I can respect someone with his views.

This is predictive of nothing - but McCain’s mother doesn’t seem to suffer from any form of dementia. When she visited Europe last year and was refused a rental car because of her advanced age, she bought her own Mercedes and drove it to whatever city she wanted to see.

He was speaking to the Saddleback Church there- an evangelical megachurch. Probably not the best place for him to come out in favor of gay marriage.

Note that Biden made a big point during the Veep debate of saying that the government has no business getting involved in marriage. I interpreted his comments as saying the government won’t force churches to marry gays but will allow them to marry, in whatever church will perform the ceremony.

I can’t watch this right now. I assume you’re kidding, but what do you mean he calls himself bi?

Obama has flipped flopped. He did at one time say it was OK, then quickly changed his mind when he ran for senator. Obama has flipped flopped on most issues.

Remember his pull the troops from Iraq, immediately, then it was within 6 months. Then it was by 2009. Now on his website it’s “We won’t let the Iraqi people suffer. We’ll maintain a force as long as necessary.”

The man is running cause Oprah thought he was cute. He doesn’t want to be president, he’s just got an ego and wants to be in the history book.

Too bad, cause Oprah would make a better president. Seriously you’ll find out how little he has done and how mediocre he is

Cite?

And, for that matter, bisexuals in opposite-sex relationships.

I appreciate your concession. I’m just trying to raise the level of technical accuracy in this discussion to the greatest extent possible.

The cite is just a couple of posts above mine, in some interview on LOGO. Just scroll up, man.

That’s flip-flopping? (Not “flipped-flopping”, BTW.) Sen. Obama has been against the war since before it started, while Sen. McCain was OK with it lasting 100 years, just a few months ago. Who’s the flip-flopper?

Poly, my pal, I am a student of history but that halcyon epoch seems to have escaped my studies. Pray, could you tell me when it was? And don’t just list individuals who swam against the political tide.

As far as I know, Obama is against doing anything on the national level re:same-sex marriage. From what I understand, he would rather let the states hash it out. He has stated his opposition to California’s Prop 8 (Same-Sex Marriage Ban). I call that being supportive of gay rights without scaring away other supporters. Unfortunately, it’s probably what has to be done.

I predict that he’ll come out in favor of SSM after his 2012 re-election. Anything prior to that would be suicidal. The man is principled, but not stupid.

How is equal rights stupid?

He better act like a principled president his first term, or he’s not worth the title.

A time index would be ideal here.

It’s between 4:10 and 4:00.

I’m not sure whether that was “Bi Guy” or “buy [correction] guy”.

If it was “bi” it looks like he meant “biracial,” i.e., he was trying to illustrate a point of shared experience between himself as biracial and others as bisexual–I guess both find themselves living in two different worlds or something, I dunno. If that’s what he was doing it seems kind of lame.

I’d need to see more cites before I could possibly believe a prominent politicial running for president would tell anyone, in any context, that he’s bisexual.

That’s my take, too. A pun on bisexual/biracial. That’s why it got a few laughs.
