Will Smith Goes Full Retard

He was quite good in SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION.

Maybe it’s because the movie is dreadfully bad, especially compared to the book.

This! This is exactly how I see the movie going. Plus, with lots of pyrotechnics and a slo-mo running scene.

Agreed. I first saw Six Degrees a couple of years ago. Up till then I just though of him as the guy who hung out with Jazz and pissed off Uncle Phil. Not that he was terrible in Fresh Prince, but it’s not really something that requires all that much depth. And I knew of his other movies but they’re not really my style. When I first saw Six Degrees, it made me sit up and go, “Woah.” The movie is well made, based on a great play, and not only that, Smith really delivers the goods.

I’m just wondering why they’re redoing Flowers. I thought the original film was pretty good but then again, that hasn’t stopped Hollywood before. If they can remake Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, they can remake anything.

You are killing me.

I agree with A Monkey With a Gun, that the real question may be whether or not the director can pull it off. I have never watched the other films about the story, nor read the novel. Only the short story, which I loved, and which seems really hard to pull of on screen without looking like Sam I Am.

I’m just glad they’re making a movie at all. I’m usually excited when some of my favorite books get turned into movies. I like seeing someone else’s interpretation of it, and I love movies as much as I love books.

Just do a good job, that’s all I ask.

And yes, the old movie blew chunks.

Maybe so, but some of us (me!) would like to see how/why Cliff Robertson won an Oscar, over Ron Moody, Alan Bates, Alan Arkin and Peter O’Toole. I’ve never seen The Fixer but I have to think Arkin and O’Toole particularly got robbed. And Moody was fine as Fagin too.

Yeah, that’s what I was going to say. I had my doubts when reading the link, but remembered PoH and I think he may do a pretty good job.

Nope.

Smith’s other serious part is Ali. His performance didn’t blow me away, but ultimately it was the screenplay and direction that hurt that film, not Will Smith’s performance.

I like the fact that Smith is drawn to science fiction scripts. I just wish the results were better.
