From what I’ve seen so far, which isn’t much really, I think it will be. I find myself actually looking forward to this. But I hate Voyager and I think the Katherine Janeway cameo will ruin the whole thing for me. Anyway, I’ve liked most of the TNG movies, and this one looks like a nice addition. Anyone else looking forward to it?
It’s an even-numbered one, so it has a chance of being good.
It stands a good chance of being one of the best ST movies. They’re going for the whole epic-dramatic-adventure theme, there will be a battle or two, and Picard’s got an arch nemesis. Also, there are hints that this thing is SO BIG it’s the last TNG movie. God, I hope not. Unless they somehow manage to pull off some good DS9 movies.
Of course it will be good! I am going to Las Vegas to visit the star trek experience and to see the movie (yes I know, me and my trekie friends are strange) So it has to be good or I am afraid I will have to go twitch in a corner if its not.
However, it is supposed to have an appearance by Wesley Crusher, according to Wil Wheaton, so be forewarned.
Actually Insurrection was going to be the last Next Gen. movie because Spiner thought he was getting too old to play a realistic android that doesn’t age. But they managed to talk him into doing this one. This is most likely the last with Data in it and hence the last Next Gen. Perhaps if they do another movie it will not have any links at all to any series.
As to this one it does look awesome. It has an absolut kick-ass trailer that doesn’t give too much away. Some scenes they showed felt a bit like House Harkonen had made it into the Trek universe, which is cool. What dialog there was sounded good. I don’t think Data will be making any boob comments in this one, thank you!
I can’t wait. The only movie I wanted to see more then this one in the past 3 years was Lord of the Rings.
- The Motion Picture: Bad
- Wrath of Khan: Excellent
- Search for Spock: Okay
- Voyage Home: Pretty Good
- Final Frontier: Awful
- Undiscovered Country: Okay
- Generations: Okay
- First Contact: Good
- Insurrection: Not Very Good
Based on the pattern I’d guess that it will be good, but not great.
I don’t know if it’ll be really good, but I expect that it will be entertaining, and that’s enough for me.
Going along with Revtim and RickJay, I’ll say that the fact that it’s an even number is a plus. I haven’t seen a trailer for it, so I can’t comment any further.
I actually liked Executive Decision which was director Stuart Baird’s first movie (though U.S. Marshalls was a dud), so my hopes are up that the Evens will again prevail.
And although <shudder> Wesley is back, Ashley Judd will also make an appearance, so that’s another plus.
Really? You realize that Ashley Judd’s first on-screen kiss was with Wil Wheaton on ST:TNG. Wesley might be getting some in this movie; with Ashley Judd, no less.
On his website, Wheaton describes that situation thusly:
“Uncle Willy went to bootytown.”
Yeah. Acting’s a rough job.
Please see Corona’s Coming Attractions Page for the movie. You can find script reviews, advance-screening reports, and more.
General consensus seems to match RickJay’s prediction: “Ehh, okay.” To wit:
plot = dumb
humor = typically dopey
action = good
villain = either good or bad depending on how you feel about Trek taking yet another dip from the cloning trough.
Another Star Trek movie? Huzzah! I’m not happy with the return of Wesley, but hey, maybe Barney the Dinosaur will have a cameo.
On the other hand, if he doesn’t survive the picture, this could very well be the best Star Trek movie ever made.
Also, some slight corrections to RickJay’s list:
- The Motion Picture: Boring
- Wrath of Khan: Excellent
- Search for Spock: So-so
- Voyage Home: Funny
- Final Frontier: Awful
- Undiscovered Country: Okay
- Generations: Sucked
- First Contact: Fantastic
- Insurrection: Worst…Star Trek…EVER!
It’ll be all right, but it’ll suffer from “Too many new things added for no reason” syndrome. To wit: A completely new villain that we’ve never heard of or seen before… which is okay for most other movies, but in Star Trek, with all the TV shows that there have been, we should have had SOME indication of what was coming. Think about it: Generations had the Duras Sisters WAY back around the middle of the series (although Soran was a new face, but he was of Guinan’s species, so it kinda works). First Contact had the Borg (and, WOO, were they much cooler in FC than they were in Voyager)… and then Insurrection had the So’na and some corrupt Federation officials that we’ve never met before.
Of those three movies, which one sucked the most?
The only reason most Trekkies are revved up about Nemesis is because of the Uber Warbird Of Doom (the bad guy’s Super Ship).
I’ll second the remark about “to many new things.” I realize I haven’t kept up with the latest changes in the Star Trek universe, but I was completely confused.
The Enterprise looked totally different.
I didn’t recognize anybody in the crew.
And who the hell was the guy with the machete?
I’m with the even-numbers-are-good-or-at-least-not-too-bad camp.
Deadly Nightlight , I wish I were going with you.
Last I heard, Wesley left Starfleet Academy to explore alternate realms of time and space with the Traveller, apparently so he can learn to perfect new super-duper warp drives.
Since Voyager came home…with data and hardware regarding
transwarp and Quantum Slipstream drives, perhaps Wesley is
putting the finishing touches on Enterprise’s drive systems?
I dunno, Enola… ten bucks says that Berman & Braga (the most hated men in the universe, followed immediately by George Lucas) completely ignore all the fascinating new stuff from Voyager. There won’t be any transphasic torpedoes, spiffy new armor, slipstream drive…
I’m sure it’ll be a good action movie and feature REALLY cool special effects. I just doubt that it’ll jibe with continuity. I mean, look at First Contact… it supposedly took place right in the middle of DS9’s Dominion War, but was there any mention of the war? And how did the Defiant get from the front lines all the way back to Earth, damaged, and repaired again? And why didn’t the E-E see any action during the War?
Ah, well.
I’m curious to see what material will be used for movies after Nemesis. You know they’re going to keep making Star Trek movies… but if they base them on Enterprise, you’re gonna get a lot of mad Trekkies.
