Will the Walt Disney Treasures DVD series ever be re-released?

I missed picking up Mickey Mouse in Living Color and Silly Symphonies when they came out. Now they’re out of stock. Will they be released again soon?

Usually the Evil Rat will pull a movie out of production for seven years. At least the bigger ones.

The corporate strategem from Mousewitsch is to withhold movies from circulation on a seven year cycle, thinking a new generation of kids will pester their parents to buy them, when finally re-released. This also insures that crappier products, like Little Mermaid II gets some sales, in the void left by the original movies.

The business slogan for Disney, BTW: “To provide the best in entertainment for everybody, everywhere.”

Oh, and the buses in the parks are made in Roswell. Go figure.

Probably not, although not for the “seven years” rule mentioned above. This series was a numbered limited release series which probably will not get reprinted. I have seen titles still available on some online places such as amazon.com so conyinue to dig around a bit, you may yet find them. And be sure to pick up the next series as soon as it comes out since it is supposed to contain a wartime set which the rumor mill tells me will include some shorts that haven’t been publically available for the last 50 years, including “Der Fuehrer’s Face.”

However, dealing with Disney and their video releases has taught me two things :

1 : Never say never
2 : Don’t hold your breath

Each Walt Disney Treasures volume is individually numbered, and I believe once they’re all gone, they’re gone for good. Try looking for good prices on discontinued volumes (I know I will).

Yeah, and they sold all the Main Street Electrical Parade light bulbs on the assumption that it really was “glowing away forever.”

I’m sure the content of the DVDs will eventually be released in other forms (if demand is perceived).

So?

Go to Amazon & check their used DVD section.

Do this frequently, & ye shall find what ye seek.

Well, if LightMagic wasn’t so ridiculously planned and thought out, maybe it would be true.

Does anyone know what future Treasures releases we can expect, and when? I have Goofy to hold me over for a while, but I’m saving my money for Donald . . .

I just did that, and the lowest price listed for the Goofy set is over twice what it went for new.

Some of these must be floating around stores still. My local Disney Store, for example, has about eight copies left of the studio set. So why couldn’t Dopers arrange to look around locally and then ship/trade around the country (or world) to help out other Disney-addicted Dopers? I’d gladly purchase the Goofy or Mickey in color sets if anyone can track them down.

Thanks for the replies everyone. What chaps my ass is that I had
Mickey Mouse in Living Color in my hands around Christmas-time but decided not to buy it because I spent a lot of money that week. Stupid financial responsibility.

I didn’t see any left at my nearby Disney store, that’s where I got my Goofy set back when they were more prevalent. Best price of anywhere I’ve seen. Keep looking in Disney stores; the price is right.
