I don’t know if anybody has mentioned this; I didn’t have time to read the whole thread but suppposedly there are going tobe some porno-type games you can buy for the Xbox how cool is that?!
Bah, lose track of a thread and see where it gets ya.
First off… sir Rjung…
Careful, man, you’re tempting fate.
Too true. So what? The PS2 didn’t start having any impressive games until its second or third wave. In fact, the major PS2 criticisms at the time of its release were almost identical to what you just wrote up there. It’s expected that the first wave of games won’t be “spectacular”. Again, this is hardly a significant criticism.
All I know is that it’s resulted in some kickass games (Mechwarrior 3, for example, or the Flight Sim games).
You’re kidding, right? You do know that Bill Gates is a huge proponent of Macs? You do know that he owns a good chunk of Apple Computer stock? Hell, I look forward to the day when Apple decides to make its own console system. It’ll be a third the size of the X-Box, and transparent.
As does the X-Box. Like I said, I’ve played the damn thing. Although the Oddworld game (despite having very nice graphics) doesn’t have enough guns or swords for my tastes.
Ditto that. I’ve just never been a big fan of racing or fighting games.
Now, Sofa King…
Nothing personal, it’s just that your post smacked more of “down with Microsoft!” than “down with X-Box!” And the whole Microsoft thing is a subject that’s… well… gotten me in trouble before.
Well, let’s see… what would you consider a “major revision”? Something along the lines of a recall, yes, I can see that. You’re on with that one. But upgrade CD’s? Patches? Please, those are good things. They’re industry standard. Many a console game - for all systems - could stand to have a correction or two added to them.
So how’s this: If they find it necessary to initiate a recall by March 1st, or if they find it necessary to fix some damaged hardware (like the aforementioned worry about the unit overheating), OR if there is a significant, predictable glitch in the system that is NOT caused by individual games, then yes, you’re on. But obscure, isolated flaws don’t count, is what I’m saying.
How’s this… the loser of the bet has to add something - of the winner’s choice - to his sig for, oh, a month? Like “I bet against the X-Box and lost and all I got was this stupid sig line”, or something to that effect? Hell, this might be fun.
Not that I have an opinion as to whether or not it’s going to happen, there are patches/corrective CDs that count as major revisions. The recall/issuing of the original PS2 DVD utility disc comes to mind, and I’m sure there have been games that have been damn near unplayable without patching first (Arcanum springs to mind) as well.
So though I’m loathe to butt in to your bet (hah, yeah right), I’d say you guys should agree to judge any patches/upgrade CDs as “major revisions” or not on a case by case basis.
The X-Box controllers may look big and clunky, but when I held one I found it was very comfortable and well laid out. However, I am still secretly hoping Microsoft crashes and burns with this thing.
Actually i think MS made a mistake in how there doing the system they shouldn’t of made exclusive games for it
What they should of done was make a d threw in a keyboand,hd, and modem and an optional monitor said something along the line of "you can play PC games without the PC " sorta like web TV
Now as for the overheating augment does anyone remember Sony not telling nayone for almost 2 years that the first like 500,000 Ps one over heated? I found out the hard way when my games began to skip and then it just didn’t come on anymore
The resale place where I bought a used one looked at the serial number and said it was well with in range of being made in the period
And yes Sony did make CD games and manufactured the SEGA genesis CD in fact Sony and SEGA were the only real supporter of the system
The reason Sony made their own system was annoyance at SEGA and Nintendo who made a dealt with them to make the vaporware snes CD system a project which fell through
As for the n64 besides being difficult to make games for the big n had a falling out with the compete that made most of the best selling snes games squaresoft
I also heard they had a beef with capcom over the nature of its games which by the time resident evil 64 came out the n64 was a non issue
so the big n learned like Atari did whit the jag and lynx SEGA with the sms and Saturn one company cant support a system on its own
Of course he is – he likes it so much, he spent fifteen years trying to copy it! Too bad he still can’t get it quite right…
Just to nip this urban legend in the bud, Microsoft owns three percent of non-voting Apple Stock, purchased in 1997 as part of a settlement between the two companies. Hardly “a good chunk,” but enough to get Microsoft to commit to continuing development of MS Office for the Mac.
