We had the Greatest Generation, the Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y…
Will the new generation that grew up alongside Harry Potter be impacted as a whole and garner the moniker “Potter Generation”?

I think it’s a great name. I was wandering the bookstore a few days ago and saw dozens of fantastic looking fantasy books that I would have lurved as a kid. A far cry from ten years ago when it was all “real-life fiction” plus a dusty copy each of C.S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, Tamora Pierce and Susan Cooper.
All these books, not to mention the fad in decent comics movies, genre television, and just general stretch-your-imaginationess wouldn’t have been possible without Potter. Heck, I bet not even Peter Jackson’s LOTR would have happened without Potter paving the way for quality fantasy in public consciousness.
If my kids can absorb half the wisdom presented by Dumbledore, I’ll be happy. Potter generation, indeed!
No - no, I don’t think so.
As much as I love the books, I just don’t think that they could possibly make enough of a lasting impression to name an entire generation after them.
The Potter Generation? Wouldn’t that be kids who came up during the latter yearsof MAS*H?
I think “Generation Z” will do just fine. And after that we can have…er…Generation Alpha, then Beta, Gamma…
Ed McBain referred to “General T” for Terrorism.
Nah. As popular as Harry Potter is, its lasting impact will be quite limited culturally, IMHO. It’d kind of like calling Gen X the “Dungeons and Dragons Generation.”
Not if George Bailey can help it.
The people that give out crappy names have already picked their label.
