I live in the Midwest and it is cold right now. It is 28 degrees at the moment and dropping. There is a bird that has nested under our carport and is being very aggressive, however that is not what I am concerned about.
How will these eggs survive and hatch? Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to help or should I just stay away? Thoughts, please. Thank You.
I’m curious as to what the hell kind of bird is nesting at this time of year. Can you take a pic? Some species will have one of the parents on the nest constantly, so if that’s the case, I would think they might survive. At this point, the best thing to do is stay away though. Unless you want to buy an incubator, snatch the eggs, and hatch them yourself, taking care of the resulting chicks. Of course, in most states in the US that’s illegal.
I’m not sure what the hell kind of bird it is and I too was absolutely baffled it was nesting this time of year. It is dark now so a picture will not do it justice. It is slightly smaller than a robin and from what I can tell is one solid color. I live in Missouri, if that helps you any. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow and I’ll put up a picture. He is attacking my wife and I anytime we get within 10-15 foot of the nest, so we can no longer park under the carport. Also, the nest is there from another bird that hatched birds this spring. The last bird was friendly and would perch right next to me; I fed her worms and bugs. This bird is nuts though.
Have you actually seen the eggs? Or just the bird going into the nest? It could just be taking shelter there. I can’t think of any small bird that would nest in February in Missouri. Pictures would be of great interest.
