I don’t even know how to cope with the horrible, devastating evidence of widespread persecution in “Surprising Top Ten List of Anti-Christian Acts of 2011 by DefendChristians.Org”
It’s just one step short of lions, people.

I’d be a bit more concerned about number 6 -
Regards,
Shodan
In the spirit of “balance,” someone should send them 10 instances of “bad things Christians have done to people over the centuries.”
Based on some of the research I’ve done about this list, that may include “Make up stories then put them in the top 10 just so you have something to complain about.”
I’m not saying that it’s made up, but I can’t find any mention of that supposed incident in Kalispell, Montana in Google News or the New York Times archives.
The story seems to be only on right wing sites.
Google results-Kalispell Montana fire bomb
I’d be mostly concerned that there’s not a citation included for ANY of them.
Also, my new year’s resolution is to indulge Christians who complain of persecution by punching them in the face. You’re welcome, bitches!
The man who was doing nothing but handing out flyers is also not a story I’ve been able to find anything on except on propaganda sites.
You’re a very thoughtful person, DianaG.
Hey, they like to believe that they’re persecuted, I like to punch people in the face. Feel the synergy!
Also, hey, whaddaya know? Can’t find any references in the non-batshit-crazy-propaganda media at all to numbers 9, 8, 6, or 4.
Number 7 was indeed suspended for making dumbass controversial remarks on facebook. This hardly makes him unique.
Number 5 has been going on since 1989, with the courts consistently finding that the cross is unconstitutional and needs to be moved.
Number 3 definitely happened in response to neighbors’ complaints, can’t find an online reference to a resolution.
Number 2, declaring LGBT month, isn’t persecuting anyone. Fuck right off.
Number 1, can’t find any reference to the “celebrate” quote outside of the batshit-crazy-propaganda sites, although of course legislation was passed to include LGBT awareness in history lessons. Again, no one is being persecuted, fuck right off.
What always disgusts me the most about this kind of p-Cm article is that there are places in the world where christians suffer from real religious persecution, and one place in particular, Iraq, where the United States is directly responsible for making it worse. It seems to me if they were really interested in helping persecuted christians they would be directing at least some time, money and effort that way.
I know who will be on the list for 2012.
ETA: Oops, that was supposed to follow right after DianaG’s post.
#8 doesn’t even make sense:
So let me get this straight. A female co-worker of a Christian attended a bible class run by his wife and he gets fired? No exposition? No link? Other than the fact that they were Christian, how does this even relate at all to Christian persecution? For all we know, the female co-worker was having an affair (or rather, the married Christian man was having an affair) and she found out he was married at the bible class. This is so weak, its like saying if a Christian stubs his toe, there’s an atheistic conspiracy to injure him. His religion has nothing to do with anything!
Searches are proving difficult for most of them.
10 - Seems to be well documented… if somewhat misrepresented. Link
9 - Seems only to exist on right wing blogs and the like. Interestingly the text is almost identical on all of them “two-inch wide pamphlets” feature highly in a lot of them. But I like this one as it has the officer’s report and the victim’s complaint. Even if the “victim” is taken at his word, he was trespassing, refused a lawful request of an officer, and likely resisted arrest. Not seeing much persecution here. I especially like the fact that the police officer was acting on the request of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where the guy was trespassing. Those darn Catholics always oppressing the Christians.
8- This looks to be the originating article. It is completely anonymous and devoid of any confirmable facts. But even if it is 100% correct, it looks like a company fired two people because they weren’t at work when they were supposed to be. The fact that they were at bible study seems irrelevant.
7- Hmmm… well documented, but a bit misrepresented. Teacher was assigned to a non-teaching position for about a week (with pay) while the school investigated potentially inflammatory facebook comments against district social media policy. My heart bleeds.
6- Already mentioned. But I like how all the conservative sites ignore the other firebomb. Evidently the bomber is persecuting Christians and department stores. Or maybe he just threw them at two large crowded areas, and isn’t anti-Christian at all.
5- Yep a case over two decades long. And it seems pretty clear cut. The city owns and operates what is functionally a place of worship. Pretty clear violation of the establishment clause. There have been several proposals which would allow the cross to stay at its current location while disentangling the city from operating a religious forum. Oh the humanity.
4- Wow it was really hard to find a neutral article reporting on this. Interestingly the LGBT press covers this very differently and points out that some of the oppressed groups are neo-nazis. Entertaining if true, cause everyone knows how Christian nazis are (hopefully I didn’t just Godwinize the thread).
3- Those darn persecutors. How dare they enforce existing city codes? After all they are only holding religious services for up to 50 people. Why should they have to adhere to the law regarding zoning for religious services? If they are as non-disruptive as they claim, they should be able to easily get the conditional use permit they are legally required to have.
2- Yep, and? Presidents declare special months about once a month. How is a GLBT month an assault on Christianity?
1- Again, and so what?
All in all a poorly documented list of persecutions, none of which seem very prosecution-y when they are examined at all. And about half of them are homophobia persecutions rather than Christian persecutions anyway.
If they want persecution- I’ll help them by kicking their whiny asses in and smashing their possessions. There’s some more motherfucking synergy for you.
The other? Try Four others. Some asshole was loading aluminum foil and Drano in plastic bottles, it sounds like (disclaimer–this is all from the article, if you try this and die blame the flathead beacon), and throwing them around. Three stores, including the very gay-friendly Target, and two street locations. The account of an officer saying they deserved it (which obviously they didn’t) appears to be entirely the claim of the Thomas More society, a pro-life law center that really, really wants this to appear as domestic terrorism instead of as some idiotic probably teenager’s dangerous criminal prank. This wasn’t a nail bomb, this wasn’t a pipe bomb, this wasn’t something that even exploded. It was a nasty thing to do, but not remotely what the list claims it was.
Glad to satisfy your concerns, Shodan!
Huh. I didn’t see that there were four. That makes it seem even more like the protesters were a target of opportunity rather than a targeted attack. Guy is obviously a dangerous criminal. He should be found and incarcerated. But it is really stretching it to try and make this an anti-christian attack
This is my favorite. It’s the ultimate example of how ugly and foolhardy this sort of Evengelical rhetoric is. One of the biggest examples used to justify their persecution complex is an example of the government not persecuting a different group.
Well DUH. It means we have to treat gays like PEOPLE!!! They’re persecuting OUR right to persecute others!!!
