Remember how, long ago, Trump reported that he had sent private investigators to Hawaii to find out the real truth about Obama’s citizenship? Those investigators, he said, had found out some amazing things and he’d hold a press conference soon to tell all.
Well, that press conference never really happened. Sure, he much later used having one as an excuse to show off his new hotel, but he never divulged those amazing things the investigators supposedly discovered.
Then there was going to be a press conference to tell all about Melania’s immigration status problems. I don’t believe that press conference ever happened, either.
Now there’s supposed to be a press conference to reveal how he’s going to handle his financial affairs and those of the Trump Organization. He seems to have a history of deciding that promising to have a press conference is just as good as actually having one.
So will he actually hold the press conference? If he doesn’t and is pressed on it, will he claim that the uncorroborated (I believe) statement by a staffer that he sold all his stock holdings some time ago was just as good as an actual press conference that would talk about how the Trump Organization would operate?
“My financial affairs are great, OK? They’re great. I’ve been getting calls from people, they can’t believe my finances, it’s like nothing they’ve ever seen. I’m making deals, I make the best deals, I’m very smart, we’re gonna be winning bigly. No further questions.”
If the honorable Pres to be has anything to say, he’s perfectly capable of tweeting it out. Concerning his personal finances? I understand he’s being audited and is bound to silence as a result. Or something.
“Don’t need no stinkin’ press conferences! With Twitter, I can go directly to my supporters and not trust lying reporters who will twist my words and make up fake news about me!”
The only room full of people Trump EVER wants to stand in front of is a room full of his adoring, chanting, worshippers.
Why would Congress call him out for not holding press conferences? It’s none of their business whether he holds press conferences or not. If Congress needs info from the president, they can and should request that info directly.
Congress has subpoena power. And the president has executive privilege. Ultimately, Congress wields the power of impeachment or rallying the voters to kick the bum out in the next election.
President-elect Donald Trump is postponing until next month a previously announced news conference to outline how he’ll handle his far-flung business operations while in the White House, according to senior Trump transition officials.
The originally-announced date (December 15) was all about the wavering Electors and the crucial date of December 19 (the day they vote). The announcement got them used to thinking: well, if we just wait, we’ll get the information we need to make up our minds. So we can just be patient and wait.
Of course they now have to ‘be patient and wait’ until AFTER they have voted.
[Insert dancing gif here.]
(And they will have to wait until after the sun cools and the universe contracts, no doubt. It will be a very, very long wait.)
Wow. Remember those halcyon, innocent days of early September when it was a daily crisis over Hillary not speaking to the press? I am sooooo glad we have evolved and are now able to not worry if our PEOTUS bothers speaking to the press.
I have a feeling he will never do a press conference again. Ever. And why should he? Who’s going to make him? He hasn’t done anything that’s “expected” or “traditional”. He’ll just say he’ll use Twitter to answer all the questions any one could have. And he already knows what the questions will be because he’s, like, smart.
