Will Trump see prison?

What crimes would he be hypothetically punished for?
I don’t think winning an election against a democrat is technically illegal yet.

Hypothetically, income tax evasion. syphilis to follow.

Aunt Becky from Full House has a better chance of going to prison than Donald Trump.

America, what a country!

Corruption, campaign finance violations, bribery, violation of the emoluments clause (and conspiracy to enable others to do just that), fraud, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, giving illegal orders and being a big poopy head would be a decent enough start. You could easily throw in hate speech and incitement of violence if you really want to go wild with it.

Campaign finance fraud for one. Trump is already an inindicted Co conspirator in a case that got Michael Cohen three years in prison.

John Edwards was facing up to 30 years in prison for the same thing, misusing campaign funds.

That’s just one crime. There’s also tax evasion. Obstruction of justice. There’s the enquirer buying and burying stories. Money laundering. Sexual assault.

Hell incitement to riot (encouraging his followers to attack his critics) could probably be charged on him.

Keep in mind he has barely been investigated other than the Mueller report. And barr is trying to bury that.

Trump and his family will be investigated for years and years. It’s barely started.

This is Great Debates. Do you have a cite for this? Beyond a bunch of opinions that is. Or analysis from afar.

“Mentally ill” and “dementia” are almost always opinions.

Even if it’s true that he’s 100% guilty of all these things, it’s just not going to happen. He won’t spend a day in jail.

Even if he could be publicly known to be guilty without a doubt of violating campaign finance laws, obstruction of justice, emoluments clause, fraud related to his faux charity, etc etc, he probably wouldn’t go to prison. All his enablers and sycophants would circle the wagons and proclaim that he can’t be prosecuted and besides most of those laws were not that big a deal anyway so just shut up peons and let our savior tRump do his holy work.

There might be more of an opportunity to jail him for any known crimes after he’s out of office since “can’t be prosecuted while in office” would no longer apply, but I figure it wouldn’t happen then, either. Somehow the rules for him are so different than for others that not even the most obviously craven and just wrong behavior is lauded.

It depends on how the next 2 years go. If he wins in 2020 then there is no chance. If he loses then it depends on who the new POTUS is, whatever is in the Mueller report, as well as any new crimes he may commit between now and Election Day. I think the justice department under a president Harris, given her experience as a prosecutor, is more likely to go after Trump than the justice department under a president Biden, who would probably be more likely to bust out the “it’s time to look forward rather than staying stuck in the past” type of line.

ETA: I think the Democrats would also need to win the Senate in 2020 as well.

As someone else pointed out, even if Trump goes to jail, it’ll probably a Club Fed.

If Trump goes to prison I expect Democratic politicians to follow him. Republicans cannot allow one of their own to be prosecuted(almost certainly politically motivated) without ensuring adverse consequences for Democrat politicians.

Yeah, but so what ? The point is not to get him shanked in the shower.

Sending corrupt politicians to jail is good for the country.

Short of committing high treason or ordering people’s murders Trump won’t do prison time, unless he’s stupid enough (which could be) to commit and get caught at a felony after he leaves office. There would first have to be enough evidence to prove charges, Trump would have to be impeached and then tried and convicted. Long before that someone would offer him a sweetheart deal: resign voluntarily and get pardoned by his successor. No one in the Good Ole’ Boys* Club is going to want to set a precedent that could bite them on the ass down the road someday.

(updates to-do list…)

Seems like Part 2 of the Mueller Report is getting lots more discussion than initially. Fox guys even have said there are grounds for impeachment based on obstruction. Hearings featuring Barr and other luminaries are almost certain to stoke the fires of controversy. Does this change the equation? Impeachment for the Donald? Maybe even conviction in the Senate once the jackals smell blood?

No.

Once more from the top, with feeling: “NOOOOOOoooooooooooo…”

Now, collapse sobbing into a fetal position.
Much better.

Are you suggesting that if Trump were to go to prison, that Republicans must prosecute Democrats as revenge? You don’t seem to have any placeholder in this statement for Democrat(ic) politicians to have been found to have done anything prosecutable.
