Will Wisconsin explode on Thursday?

Apparently the Winter Festival was this weekend on the Capital Square. It’s now at the Memorial Union so you won’t be trying to ski through protesters. At least the Governor isn’t insisting they haul in and dump snow on the square right now, which would be normal for the event.

And all the nobles are taking shelter in barns?

I’ve got several friends that are teachers and social workers, a few of them in Wisconsin.

They have been taking one for the team, for years. As Drain Bead mentioned, these people are often making ludicrously low wages, considering what that do, the amount of education they have to have and the hours they have to put in. The benefits are what make it possible for them to consider taking these jobs. One or two percent pay increases a year, if you are lucky. And now the states want 1) make the employees pay more for those benefits and 2) take away the unions ability to engage in collective bargaining?

If this passes, I foresee a large shortage of teachers in Wisconsin next year, at current teachers say “Fuck it” and go get jobs in the private sector.

The Cracker Barrel is crappy. But there’s a Heavenly Ham down the street. . .

I should totally bring them sandwiches.

Assembly takes key vote on budget-repair bill with no Democrats present

All this does is lock the bill so it now can’t be changed. In the meantime on Saturday the teabaggers will be at the Capital 12:00-15:00. Is Saturday the first violence day?

Now the vote is rescinded.

That place is so good. I had breakfast there about a year ago and it brought a tear to my eye.

Can someone please explain to me the significance of the legislators, er, running away?

As far as I can tell from looking at Wikipedia, the National Guard wasn’t called in. Only the Seattle Police Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office. And I’m pretty sure the mayor can’t call in the National Guard on his own anyways.

It’s a quorum rule. The Wisconsin State Senate has 33 members (19 Republicans and 14 Democrats) and legislative rules say there has to be at least twenty members present for any business to be conducted.

Respectfully, I don’t think you realize how few jobs are out there in the private sector, even for highly educated people, nor do you realize how many of us have taken pay cuts and more of a share of our benefits in order to keep our employment.

And your plight is clearly the fault of public workers. They pushed for tax cuts, they raised salaries and bonuses of executives while cutting salaries of other workers, they increased health insurance rates, they are sitting on large amounts of cash but not creating jobs (except overseas). Yes, I can see why you have such animus to teachers and firefighters.

There was a red Maserati parked outside my business yesterday and the first thought I had was there is another fucking teacher living the good life off my taxes. Sales of private jets are up again and I just know it is public sector workers creating the demand. I’m sick of it I tell you.

I’m curious, why would the Seattle Police Department be called in to Wisconsin?

Well, there’s a camel breeder in Woodville. Bit far from the capital, if I’m remembering my state geography correctly, though.

I read earlier today, that two pilots from the Wisconsin Air National Guard, flew to Chicago and landed at O’Hare and requested political assylum, claiming they were ordered to bomb the protesters in Madison.
