I don’t think the console market itself is under threat, but it’s shrinking. Streaming games, casual games on tablets and Nintendo/Sony dominance are all making it less attractive. It’s a bit of an aberration having more than two competitive consoles in any given generation, too.
I see that the remake of Halo will be on PS5 when it releases.
Another indicator that Xbox is not really valuing or even planning on exclusivity at this point. I’m hearing that the next Xbox might indeed be a console and Windows machine that could run Steam, etc.

That’s basically what the Xbox Ally X already is (confusingly). It’s an underpowered handheld Windows PC that cannot play Xbox games, but nonetheless has Xbox branding and a fake Xbox-style launcher. Oh, and it costs more than a real Xbox.
They just decided to take the Xbox brand and throw it in the dump. Now it’s just a synonym for the beloved (not) Games for Windows Live.
