I almost dropped the “up” from the title, but that was too easy…
It’ll definitely be a jeans kinda day for us. I can’t remember the last time I dressed up for turkey day. I may iron a blouse rather than pull on a t-shirt - we’ll see how I feel on Thursday morning.
Who’s gonna be spiffed up and who’s gonna be comfy?
My mom will be dressed in slacks and a blouse and everyone else will be in jeans, t-shirts and sweaters. I don’t like to wear jeans on the holidays because after stuffing myself with food they’re just too damn tight! I’ll probably opt for some cotten stretch pants or my wind pants… anything with an elastic waist band will suffice.
I’ll probably wear nice pants and a sweater. I’m hosting Turkey Day and kind of feel obligated to look nice, even if everyone else comes in jeans. Actually I encourage them to wear jeans because my bulldog, Pia, will be overwhelmed by so many guests and the possibility of turkey falling on the floor and will most certainly be in full drool mode.
Winnie basically shares my standards – Dockers-style pants, brown loafers, & a nice sweater (a [Jack Black]Cosby sweater[/Jack Black], not a fleece jogging-suit sweater).
In our family, Thanksgiving is not a T-shirt & jeans kind of day.
DireWolf I assume you are smoking your turkey. YUM! I’ll be at my partner’s brother’s house for Thanksgiving. They live in west Alabama so if you show up in anything but jeans and a t-shirt you’re dressed formal. hehhehheh!
We’re also having fried turkey, which I am preparing. It is absolutely wonderful! Anybody wanna know how to fry a turkey?
There’s a possibility that we could be in shorts - I haven’t checked the forecast for Ocala. Turkey on the lanai - another thing I won’t miss when we move to Maryland…
I love fried turkey, but I won’t be having any this year. I’m going to Mississippi where I will have my two favorite foods in the world, homemade pecan pie and,of course, my maw maw’s congealed salad that she only makes on Thanksgiving and Christmas and that never turns out right when I try to make it.
And I will not dress up. If I take the time to dress up, I will miss the parade and it’s not as good when I tape it because someone always tells me about it before I get to watch it and then I’m not surprised.
Another reason I will not dress up is because the day after Thanksgiving is my birthday and I’m going to dress up then. I don’t want to wear pantyhose two days in a row.
Just thinking about two of my favorite days in the year makes me lose all sense of proper sentence structure. I’m so ecited that I can barely spell. (No,I didn’t do that on purpose. That letter just stopped working for some reason.)
Dress in costume?? That would be really interesting, as my costume trunk includes a pink fuzzy-bunny suit, a tiger suit, a shark costume, a wizard’s robe, and a daisy hat (yellow hood with white petals all around it) - yep, that would be one for the photo album!
We’re staying home for Thanksgiving, but if we were going to anybody else’s house for the holiday we would most certainly dress presentably.
A few years ago I was at another family’s Christmas dinner and one of their guests arrived two hours after dinner was supposed to have been served, wearing sweats. As soon as dinner was over, she gathered up a huge plate of leftovers and went home.
Another guest called at the last minute to say she and the kids wouldn’t be there 'cause they needed a nap.
I wish people would take dinner invitations a little more seriously. If I invited you to dinner and you arrived late and/or dressed in rags, you would never be invited back. If it’s a barbecue or other informal gathering, then sure, wear jeans or shorts or sweats. Otherwise, no way.
Thats sucks. I’ve done that numerous times. This year I get out a 7 Thanksgiving morning, but don’t have to go back that night.
People are going to be lucky I’m dressed period. I considered dressing up until I got stuck working my usual night off.
