Depending on how scaly it is, it can be a condition called seborrheic dermatitis (it’s “cradle cap” of the face, essentially). It responds well to treatment - so seeing a derm or a family prac doc might be of use.
I also have dry skin, and try to stay moisturized (particularly the eyezone and forehead). I’ve been using Kinerase for years (the lotion and the intensive eye treatment). It is unscented and not greasy at all.
I only ever clean with Cetaphil and moisturize with Nivea and it has completely resolved my dry winter skin problems. I figure the cleanest, purest, simplest, products have to be best for the most difficult and sensitive skin. And, yes I’m cheap so no way am I ever gonna pay $250 bux for a little soap. yikes!
I think you are right to cut way way back on the exfoliating. Be gentle to your skin.
Oh and I dunno if anyone else has mentioned this already, but be sure you are drinking plenty of water.
I’ve used all sorts of expensive moisturizers, but I’ve found that I really like Burt’s Bees products, which are quite reasonable. I’ve been using their Carrot Day Cream for ages, but I’m now trying their new royal jelly somethingorother, which is nice.
