Got rid of the fancy dancy WinXP Desktop picture for the plain Jane grey color. But how do I change the color of the Taskbar? It is still blue; and do am I!

Right click on the desktop, choose “properties”. Look at the Appearance tab. Choose another color scheme in the Color Scheme pop-up that’s not blue like you. Green and Silver are the other stock choices. Knock yourself out.
A few other themes are available (besides skinning software like WindowBlinds and packs that replace systems files with skinned versions, neither of which i would recommend). The one I use is a black and gold semi-official one that apparently slipped out of Microsoft New Zealand a couple of years ago, called Royale. Other versions of Royale are easily found on the web, and you can find a shiny Windows Medi Player theme too.
Actually, I think my theme may be known as Zune Royale. It’s certainly Zune-ish. But it shows up in the theme applet as just “Royale”. I understand that other Royales out there, be they blue or black, are often beta versions, in which you get occasional odd colour clashes.
