When I swap data CDs in my drive and go back to Windows Explorer to locate some new files, the directory structure of the old disk is still there. No matter how many times I shut down Explorer, remove the disk etc, the damn thing persists. Any cure?
Sounds like your CD drive is broken and is not reporting to Windows that the disk has changed. The directory information is cached. To request Windows to re-read it in Explorer press the F5 function key.
This has happened to me with Win 95/98/98SE/2000 and XP, with all sorts of machines, old, new and undetermined.
None of the various O/S’s were installed improperly and all the hardware were/are in optimum working condition.
It’s a Windows “feature.”
