Okay, I’ve got a computer at work with no sound card. The cd-rom has a headphone jack. Under windows 9x, I was able to play cd’s using Microsoft’s cd player utility with no problem.
I upgraded the computer to Windows 2000 Professional and it won’t let me. Does anybody know a way to trick this recalcitrant mofo into singing for me?
Does the front panel of the CD-Rom have a play button? If it does you initiate playback using that, though I’m suprised that the CD player in W2000 doesn’t work for you.
Strange that Win2000 Pro doesn’t let you hear it. Do as EasyPhil says or :
Try some other software to run your CD. Maybe Winamp. See if that helps.
If it’s absolutely essential, you can setup a dual boot on your comp, wherein you can boot to Win98 to play music. Not very difficult to do, but I doubt it would be feasible at work, since you won’t be able to use Win 2000 simultaneously.
I have the same situation. Wondering if it’s possible to listen to audio content on a website without a sound card, using the CD-ROM drive’s headphone jack, or does that really require a sound card?
There was a program for Windows 3.1 called wave.exe that used the PC speaker to simulate a sound card. There might be something similar for Windows 2000.
Okay, I went back for round two and have discovered…I am an idiot.
I went to try some other ideas and asked the user to get a cd to test it out. She said it didn’t matter seeing as the disk wouldn’t eject.
Stupid slortar hadn’t hit the eject button last friday. If he had…he would’ve noticed the drive was broken. Swapped out the drive for a new one…problem solved. Washcloth to wipe egg from face, totally optional.
