Win95 question

I recently bought an old computer with win95 on it. I have the disks for Windows95, and I would like to install the desktop themes, but the computer was setup with the CD. How can I get it to prompt me for the disks as opposed to the CD? Thanks.

Usually when it prompts you, you can enter another location in the box. Just put the disk into the A: drive and use A: as the location. You may have to use trial and error to get the right disk.

The information is kept in the registry. If you’re brave you can edit it directly or use a utility.

The solution offered in the previous post will probably work just fine. ** Do NOT edit the registry!** This is the ancient Indian burial ground! Here Be Dragons! The Curse of Dread Cthulu…you get the drift?

Alternatives: call your vendor, ask for help in such a way as to imply you are considering further purchases, if only you can resolve this little problem.

Do NOT edit the registry

Call MicroSoft support. Listen to soft jazz interminably while whichever intern is being punished that day finishes his Snapple and takes your call.

Do NOT edit the registry

One minor slip and your computer enters utterest catatonia, the dilithium cystals buckle and He’s dead, Jim. Not you and me and the smartest guys we both know are smart enough to go mucking about in there. The registry is to user-friendly what the Sex Pistols were to music.

** Do NOT…**

Ah, go ahead, edit the registry, tahw nac ti truh? LookOut PressEx DowsWin Ask Bob

I agree with realitychuck and there’s no need to edit the registry. It is a dangerous thing to do.

Having said that I have to say I have messed with the registry more than anyone should ever think of doing and have never made a backup copy before. Yes, I am that stupid and one day I will be utterly sorry but, for now, I am getting away with it. I have tricked my laptop into believing it has a voice modem and other such things. So far, so good. But I agree, you should NOT do this at home.
