Windows 2000 Q: No actual pictures in View > Thumbnail folder view.

Ack! I cant figure out how to get actual images to show up in Windows 2000 when I go to view > thumbnails. I just get the Photoshop 7 JPEG logo surrounded by white.

Google searches have only netted me info on how to fix it on XP & ME.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

Qadgop the Mercotan had this problem a few weeks back. Read through his thread and see if anything there helps. Read through the MS Knowledgebase article I linked to in that thread as it also applied to Windows 2000.

Thank you I am currently working through the options listed in that thread to see if any work for me.

=) my hero!

This worked like a charm. Thank you very much!

I have a thumbnail problem on my XP machine. In the folder where I keep my digital camera’s files, if I get too many (like 200 or 300) in one folder and choose thumbnail view, then scroll down the window to look at them, at some point before I get to the end, my computer will reboot. No shutdown process, it just immediately turns off and starts booting up again. This happens whether I use the mouse to drag the slider down, or use the keyboard with the down arrow or page down. However, if I switch to “details” view, and scroll down the list so that it has to read the dimensions of the files as it goes, then when I switch back to thumbnails view, it will usually work. So I do my best to keep the pitcures separated into folders of less than 200 pictures.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Most welcome.

CurtC, that is a rather odd problem. The 200-300 file limit you mentioned sounds like it might be a memory (physical or virtual) issue. Has it always done this? Have you checked your Event Viewer in Computer Management for a clue as to what’s happening immediately before the shutdowns?

Yes, it’s always done that, from the time the computer was new about 18 months ago. Maybe 9 months ago, I did a complete system restore, and the problem existed both before and after. I’ll check the event log.
