Windows 95 to 98 Backup Problem

I upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98 a while back. God bless me.

The problem is that when I went back recently to restore some old backed up files that I had in W95, I discovered that the backup systems between 95 and 98 are incompatible. That is, the backup system in 98 looks at the backups I did in 95 and just laughs it’s head off and refuses to restore them, Plus, when I installed 98, it apparently ousted the old backup software, so I can’t use that either.

So … does anyone know of any software out there that will allow me to restore my old W95 files into W98? Or am I doing something wrong?

The w95 for 98 backup software should be on the CD for W98. Look around on it, I think that it’s located in OLD FILES?

Hey Euty, shouldn’t this be in GQ?

Problems Restoring a Windows 95 Backup Set File in Windows 98

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows 98

SYMPTOMS
When you try to use the Windows 98 Microsoft Backup tool to restore an individual file from a Microsoft Windows 95 backup Set, the restored file may be damaged. The resulting file may be 0 bytes.

CAUSE
This problem can occur when you try to restore an individual file from a multiple-file backup set that spans more than one disk or tape. This is due to design variations between Windows 98 and Windows 95 in the implementation of the QIC format.

RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, restore the entire Windows 95 backup set, and then delete any of the other restored files that you do not want.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.

Euty, it could we worse. You could have a Mac.
