How can I reinstall/extract this guy?
I can’t find it on any Win98 PC. not in Windows or windows/system.
Thanks
You usually can’t find it on win98 pcs because I’m pretty sure its meant for win95. win98 comes with ws2bakup.bat (in your \windows\ws2bakup directory)…
You definitely don’t won’t to mess around with this file if you can avoid it. I’ve read people having problems with IE, Outlook and all their TCP/IP settings after having played with it.
But with that disclaimer, here’s the contents of the batch file (if you do run it, all the advice I’ve read about it says you should first boot into MS-DOS, run the batch from there, reboot and then run it again from Windows):
REM This is the Winsock2 backup batch file,
REM created 06/11/1999 12:19:03.
REM Run this batch file to restore the Winsock files
REM that existed prior to running Winsock2 setup.

(Again, I don’t recommend running this batch)
Thanks, WS2BAKUP it is. I found it on a WIN95 PC and jerked around until I could repair the Boss’ WINSOCK that a virus killed. His PC from home, so I had no drivers to reinstall Windows. Now maybe he will believe me about Outlook.
Thanks again.
To rephrase the question, why isn’t WS2BAKUP on Win 98 PCs? Does Win 98 SE have it? There is no WINDOWS\WS2BAKUP on any of the Win 98 PCs I’ve seen.
Well, I have it on my laptop, which is running win98…but it was originally installed with win95 and then I used the “upgrade” cd for win98. So its probably just a leftover from the original O/S. I don’t think any O/S other than win95 comes with it.
Not sure why not, but I’m guessing that after win95, Microsoft found a better way to handle WinSock errors.
