Windows & Apache -- equivalent of sendmail?

Mods: this may be more appropriate for IMHO; I’m not sure, but if it is, feel free to move

I am running the Apache (1.3) server on Windows XP. Also installed are PERL (ActivePERL, or whatever it’s called now) and PHP with MySQL.

Basically, I’m looking for a Windows equivalent of “sendmail”. The messageboard software that I’m running has an option to email registration confirmation to those who sign up, similar to that of vBulletin/the SDMB. Unfortunately, nothing can be e-mailed until I set up some kind of e-mail program.

Does anyone know of a good place to look for this kind of thing? Googling turned up a lot of UNIX sendmail help. I’m looking for something free that has good documentation on how to integrate it with Apache and use it in Perl and PHP.

Thanks, guys.

I’m only familiar with *Nix servers (as you know from the other thread), so this may be useless to you, but I found this.

I don’t know if it’s any good, but googling “sendmail windows” turned up this

It’s not free as in beer, though. Costs $49 USD.

Ha!

Dammit, Q.E.D.!

Hmm. I believe this is the one utility that I tried to use when I last had a webserver set up. I couldn’t figure out how to get it set up properly.

Here is another one. I’m getting the feeling that Windows doesn’t integrate its own sendmail equivalent. Which flavor of Windows are you running again? I think you said XP, yes?

Correct. I got the first link you guys sent set up correctly (I hadn’t used it before), but it’s going to “expire” in 30 days.

I think the one you just sent is free, I’ll check it out. Thanks.

Cool. If you want to test it, you can send stuff to my email address.

Awesome… I think I got it working. Unfortunately, I can’t find any configuration for email in the message board setup, so a reinstallation may be in order (I think I saw an option for that in the initial setup).

Click my username in this post (or any other by me), and select “Email Q.E.D.” from the dropdown list.
