Windows Java vs. Sun JVM - what happened?

I understand there is some sort of the usual dust-up between Microsoft and Sun over JVM.

A lot of the Java grapics on my PC are now trashed, either not loading at all, or taking forever to load. Did Microsoft un-install their version of Java on one of their recent fixes and replace it with nothing? Do I need to go to Sun get their version of JVM?

I’m running Windows XP.

Thanks.

Although Java is my bread and butter, I’m a little bit out of the loop as to what MS has been doing. To the best of my knowledge, they have simply let their JVM wither on the vine.

Try downloading the latest JRE from Sun (just the JRE under “Download J2SE…” is sufficient). Install and then go to your Java Plugin control panel and make sure to tell it that you want IE to use the Java Plugin (on the Browser tab).

I believe that Service Pack 1a for WinXP does indeed uninstall the MS Java virtual machine; you have to install another yourself, or something.
