Does anyone know where to find the “java virtual machine”? I’ve searched at microsoft and yahoo!, but can’t find anything useful. I’m trying to go to a website with a java applet and it can’t load… error message pops up saying that i need that “jvm”… any suggestions?
Microsoft removed it from Windows XP, but then reintroduced it in Service Pack 1. You can get the standalone version from several sites – google for “download java virtual machine”. You can also get Sun’s version.
I highly suggest getting the Sun version from Number’s link. I don’t want to begin a debate on the subject but there have been a large number of issues in the past with Window’s native Java support. Namely, it just doesn’t work very well, to the point where I’ve seen some Java Apps flat out refuse to run or even crash the windows box they were trying to run on while using the native version.
And I would suggest Sun’s version because, well, I’ve never been able to obtain Microsoft’s version, even after downloading SP1.
