I have a full copy of a hard drive with Windows ME that wouldn’t boot. Where are the My Documents and Desktop folders in Windows ME?
Should just be C:\My Documents on Win9x/ME, If I recall correctly.
Also look under C:\Windows\Profiles.
For 98 the desktop is C:\windows\desktop, I don’t know if they moved it for ME or not, I never ran ME.
For some reason these folders do not seem to exist. I installed the drive on my Windows 7 machine and copied everything. Why were those folders not copied?
Which is where things are if you have multiple users installed, and each have their own set of documents. Each user has their own subfolder, so the path to the two places should be
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\*username*\My Documents
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\*username*\Desktop
If you can’t find them there, just search for the folders themselves throughout the whole hard drive. Also, it shouldn’t matter, but make sure hidden folders are visible.
Of course, if the thing won’t boot, it could be corrupted, and those folders may have been corrupted, too. Usually the folders still show up, but I’ve been unable to actually get the files off before.
