Windows ME - Unable to set Restore point

I was trying to set a restore point today and got an error message telling me the computer was unable to do so and I should restart the computer and try again. I did. It didn’t. I went to Microsoft’s website and found some help. However, Method 1 does not apply since I do not have that line in my registry. Method 2 did not work.

It is Method 3 that I have a question about: what the heck does “EBD” mean? It is not referenced anywhere else on the page. Unless they are referring to the startup disk.

Any takers?

According to this glossary, it’s an emergency boot disk.

http://www.bootdisk.com/ is a site where you can get files ot make your own boot disk.

If you have more questions, I’m sure someone will come along to help.

BTW I tried to remove a virus from someone’s ME machine by creating a restore point, and it didn’t work. If you have a virus, you might have to reinstall :frowning:

I got brave and tried Method 3 assuming EBD meant “Emergency Boot Disk” and it worked! I was able to set a new Restore point. Thanks for replying.

The OP’s already solved, but this is something to remember - System Restore uses a lot of disk space. Make sure you’ve got plenty for it.

It uses 12% unless you change it otherwise. Thats a lot of space if you use a big HD & a primary
partitition of a few gigs.

FTR, I have an 80Gb drive that is mostly empty.
