Windows MSCONFIG Selective Startup (compatibility)

I am trying to make my computer boot faster. To facilitate this, I am using Windows MSCONFIG to remove items from the bootup files. In win.ini there are a couple sections called “compatibility” and “compatibility32”.

Does anyone know what those sections are for?

They are for modifying the behaviour of Windows when running certain programs.

Just leave them alone. There’s no real performance boost to be had diddling with them in most cases. Focus instead on any extraneous crap or spyware loading in the “startup” section of the system information config applet.
