We’re hosting a Server 2003 box for a client. It’s got an IDE Travan drive.
The drive came with a trial version of TapeWare, and we would have been happy to pay the hundred bucks or whatever to buy the full version, but since this is a Server 2003 machine, it requires TapeWare’s ‘enterprise’ edition, which ain’t cheap.
I’ve been futzing around with Window’s sorry excuse for a built-in tape management backup solution, and we haven’t been able to get anything to work correctly.
So, can anybody recommend a backup utility that:
a) Costs less than a couple of hundred bucks on a standalone Server 2003 machine
b) Has a decent scheduler
We’re all *nix zealots here, and have only agreed to host the Windows machine as a favor to a friend of the president of the company. I’d like to just use cygwin, tar, mt, and cron, but that won’t necessarily be transparent to the client’s Windows admins if they ever have to step in.
I’m googling up a storm, but any suggestions would be appreciated.
