Windows Task Manager/Popups Help

Helping a friend with her PC, I am barely above competent, and 100% Mac so I need help.

She has a Pop-up problem.

submitted an error report and found at MS site this:

which directed me to:

Exit Bargain Buddy from your Tray Bar, if it is present.
Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to remove Bargain Buddy from your task manager (if it is present).
Proceed to Start -> Control Panel -> Add / Remove Programs, and remove Bargain Buddy.
If the uninstall for Bargain Buddy isn’t present in the Add / Remove Programs Window, the Uninstaller may be listed in your Program Files (accessible from the Start Menu).
Before you can delete it, the DLL file must be deregistered. In older versions, this DLL is inside the ‘Bargain Buddy’ folder in ‘Program Files’. Here there will be one or more ‘bin’ folders, one of which will contain a file called apuc.dll. If, for example, it’s in ‘bin2’ the following command will work for Windows 95/98/Me:

“%WinDir%\SYSTEM\regsvr32.exe” /u “C:\Program Files\Bargain Buddy\bin2\apuc.dll”

-the program wasn’t present in the Tray Bar or Task Manager.

-I deregistered the DLL successfully as instructed

-Windows Add/Remove Programs hung on three attempts

-I attempted to manually delete but received an error warning

-I (nervously) used the programs own uninstall program and removed about half of the components

-I attempted to manually delete the folder again and again received this error message:

Cannot delete bargains.exe access is denied
Make sure that the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

all that remains of this program are:
ub (a DAT file)
ad (a DAT file)
error (a text document)
bin (a folder)
inside the bin folder is an executable entitled: bargains

the pop-ups continue apace, I cannot delete the remaining files, the task bar sill does not show it running.
HELP
Thank you.

I would suggest downloading AdAware ( http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ ) and let it clean up the mess.

You could also try booting in Safe Mode and see if that will let you delete the files manually. But there are multiple versions of the program, so AdAware will more likely get everything deleted for you.

beauty!
thanks a lot, now I’m a hero.
