Windows Terminal Server client sessions questions

Anyone know how to turn off the Start menu for clients connection to a MS Terminal server via RDT? Also, anyone know how to turn ON the clock for those same sessions (I know how to turn it off but no idea how to turn it on when it’s not enabled for some reason)? Finally, anyone know how to turn off the Lock function in a terminal session?

This would be a whole lot easier if I could figure out how to run Fortress 101 or a similar product on the terminal sessions…if anyone is using such a product feel free to include it in the thread.

Hopefully someone out there knows the answers to some of this stuff…I’m trying to google stuff on my phone (which is what I’m using to start this thread so apologies if it comes out looking strange) as the customers firewall is blocking everything under the sun and they don’t have the account creds for me to get in there and disable it.

Backtrack a bit: what are you trying to achieve? You can set things up so that remote users only get one application - see Windows Home Sever for an example of this.

The customer is using thin clients to connect to a terminal server. They want the terminal sessions to only have access to what’s on the desktop…no access to the Start menu except to log off (this is how they have their regular clients set up using Fortress 101).

The desktop is all set up (though unlike in Fortress 101 I haven’t managed to lock down the icons yet…that is a problem for another day) except the clients have (limited) access to the Start menu right now. In addition the clients are not getting a clock for some odd reason.

And yes, I am aware you can set up to run a single application from the Terminal Server…that isn’t what the client wants though (my suggestion was to actually embed the .rdt files with the server applications directly on the thin client desktop…but they don’t want to do it that way).

Ah, so they do want a Start Menu after all? Sounds like you should just whack in a Group Policy pointing to a customised mandatory profile, complete with Start Menu.
