Ugh, another OS problem…
This time my computer freezes during the “Microsoft Windows XP Professional” screen when it has the little bars going across the screen. Right before it freezes, my keyboard’s lights (num/caps/scroll lock) all flash, and same with my optical mouse. About one to two seconds later the computer freezes.
I’ve tried using the system restore tool, but it doesn’t help. (BTW, I can access safe mode and I’m using the computer with the problem right now.) I did a few things before I shut down last time, here are pretty much all of them:
-
Backed up my registry.
-
Made some registry changes – created some new keys and dword settings to try to get windows update to work. I have since reversed ALL of them.
-
Installed SETI@Home. I have since uninstalled it.
-
Installed United Devices. I have since uninstalled it. However, I think this is the problematic software. I had trouble shutting it down so I had to go to task manager to shut it down. The software was a major pain in the ass.
-
Turned off the computer.
-
Turned it on, got a keyboard error (I get this every once in a while with this MS keyboard). Turned off the computer. Same problem (turning off and on usually fixes it). Turned it on again, no keyboard error. I don’t think this had anything to do with the problem, but I thought I’d state it anyways…
And that’s when the startup screen first froze on me.
Please help… This really sucks, but at least I can get into safe mode this time around…
