Windows XP problem starting up

I have an HP Mini that came with XP…its not quite a year old.

When I restart it, a dos looking screen comes up with a progress bar of sorts at the bottom. It freezes right away …maybe 10% of the way to the end of the bar.

I have to F8 in order to get past that problem. I haven’t shut it down for a couple of days now but will if I get some responses or suggestions of what else to look for or do.

F8 meaning safe mode?

Install and run Malwarebytes.

It’s Obama’s fault, but good luck getting him to admit it.

I didn’t know that he took computer classes in college or was tight with Steve Jobs back then. In fact I don’t know much about his college years… probably never will.

Thank you for having a sense of humor. I had just come from a thread whose theme was “hey ‘What the’, quit being such a one-trick pony!” When I saw this, I couldn’t NOT throw you under the bus (but not down to the quarry).

Ise do got me a sense of humor !!

Malwarebytes seemd to work. I ran the free scan and when I restarted that original dos-looking screen didn’t come up.

However I did one other thing before restarting. During the process I got an error bubble from Roxio saying that their restore procedure and a windows restore procedure were both active. Roxio wanted me to shut down the other. Instead I uninstalled Roxio. Then I restarted the computer.
