I have a Windows XP question: Why does the thesaurus change words from regular type to italics when you decide to replace a word, and how do we make it STOP?
How it happens for example is: Type “strike” (as in what I’d like to do to the computer); Shift + F7; thesaurus pops up with synonyms listed; select “hit” and click its drop-down arrow; click Replace; the word “hit” now appears in the text in ITALICS instead of reglular type. This happens every time any replacement is done using the thesaurus.
Any and all helpful replies are greatly appreciated, as this is a time-consuming hassle to manually go back and change the italicized words to regular type.
I’m using MS Word 2002 and that isn’t happening. What iteration of Word are you using?
I have Word XP and it doesn’t do that either.
Are you talking about Word XP or Windows XP? if it’s Windows XP, you could be talking about alot of different word processing apps.
Let us know what application you are using when this happens.
Sorry, it’s Word 2003 from the Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 package, including Word 2003, Excel 2003, Outlook 2003 and PowerPoint 2003.

For some reason, even the above notation is too short, according to the BB software. No matter what I type, it tells me this message is too short, and to extend its length by at least two characters. Many repetitions of this activity have resulted in the lengthy description that now appears. Hopefully this is long enough…we shall see as soon as I click “Submit Reply”.
OK, that did it. So anyway, it’s Word 2003, and the thesaurus still insists on italicizing all replaced words. Thanks in advance for the help.
