I want a good wine app for Android but I have not yet found the perfect one. I have Swirl Pro and it’s decent, but what I’d really like would let you scan a label and then link you to reviews of that wine. Is there such a thing? If not, will someone please write one!!!
Scanning a label and linking to reviews of wine is damn hard. Wine labels can be full of graphics, strange fonts, and no regular placement of key info like the grape or the year. That poses a huge problem for optical resolution.
And then we have bar codes. Bar codes for wines are not consistent - not all bottles have a bar code, those that do sometimes use it to identify the importer instead of the wine itself, or just the very basics of the wine like perhaps the maker, but not the vintage or the year.
So, though I agree with you that I’d really like an app like that, I don’t think it’ll be coming along soon. The best app I’ve found is Cor.kz, because it uses the excellent CellarTracker DB as it’s info source. But you’re still stuck typing in the name of the wine and the vintage and all that.
Thanks for the tip about Cor.kz. I just downloaded it and scanned my first barcode, and it found the wine! The app takes a while to load but I see it’s only version 1.0. Thanks.
