Wininit.ini deleted, what can I do to fix this problem?

Let’s just say I accidently deleted the file wininit.ini from my hard disk. Why isn’t important, but what can I do to reinstall it? I don’t have an install disk, but if a friend has the file on their machine, can I copy it over to my machine? Do I need this file?
Thanks

No. when you start up (especially after installing a program), and you briefly see a DOS screen (after the windows splash screen, but before the desktop starts to display) that says something to the effect of (don’t remember exact text) “Continuing Setup. Please wait while Windows configures your system…this may take a few minutes”. That is generated by Wininit.ini while it configures new software that’s just been installed. It is only needed when rebooting after installing new software or hardware. If you have just installed something, it may need to be reinstalled to make sure everything got registered and installed correctly. Otherwise, the file is completely uncessary, and don’t sweat deleting it.

Hmmm, interesting, thanks critter. Here’s the deal, a buddy of mine was installing an internet history eraser program on his machine and an error popped up indicated that the wininit.ini file was in conflict with the new program. He opted to delete the wininit.ini file and now his internet isn’t working. Of course it could be the ISP… Can I just copy my file and let him save it back onto his hard drive?
